went to my LGS today and spotted a highly modified 10-6. It looks to me like a competition gun. It has been converted to DOA only and is smoother than any other S&W I have checked, the pinned barrel is slab sided and on top is a full length site made by Aristocrat. The workmanship is top notch and the gun itself is in very good condition. Yes it has been shot a lot, but lock up is like a typical S&W. Serial # D633291. what is this and what is it's value?

Would have no value to me.

It's trigger is probably tuned so light it will only work reliably with Federal primers.
On a good day.

Plus, it won't fit in any holster made today you could be seen in public with.

Plus, it's too heavy for holster carry anyway!

It is an old PPC competition gun. Should look something like this:

There should be a name on it somewhere telling who customized it...it has an effect on the value. Mine was built by the Davis Co shop in Sacramento (on the barrel) and was marked Bill Davis Custom Model (on the rib).

I sold it to another forum member, but I really can't remember the price we agreed on

Sounds like a PPC gun to me,

I have one myself.

Something like that?
I have seen them go for a lot of money. I picked this one up for under $400, but I have also seen guns very similar go for $750-$800, even more depending on if it was built by a famous gunsmith or proven to be owned by a famous competitor.

I'm always keeping my eye out for these, mine is an incredibly accurate gun...even if it weighs an ungodly amount and is front heavy like no tomorrow

I'm not indicating that one can determine a value by a single sale but just FYI I seen one recently sell on GB for under $350 . It looked to have a good deal of bluing missing, so was well used.

I think the gun is extremely interesting and probably of a lot of value, but you should check the auction sites for a current price.

I paid $450 for mine, but only because I was intrigued by the looks of it. I remember when they were all the rage.

Yep. PPC gun. I don't know if anyone shoots that particular sport anymore. These guns had a lot of expensive work done to them and are typically very accurate. However impractical for anything other than PPC or a target pistol. They will typically have high round count, but with very light loads. They go cheap these days and are very much worth the $300-400 price they tend to go for, IF you have a use for them. Most people these days don't.

If I could find one for the right price I'd probably pick one up. My beater S&W 15-3 will take out playing cards at 50 yards in single action if I do my part (last time I tried I got 5 out of 6 and choked on the last one, it was miserable, I couldn't get more than three out of 6 when I tried again another few times).

So it would be nice to have one, for the right price around $300. Don't care if it looks ugly, as long as there is no rest and it shoots good, I'd probably take it.
