Let me (& other newbies) know if this was a bad idea.

Gun is a Kimber Ultra Carry and I figured the extractor was too long because it did not allow the case head to lay flat against the breach face. Brass would be dented In the bevel after fired. So I clamped the extractor in a Lanskey knife sharpener and stone ground the head for a round profile & shortened the extractor. Feeding is better (fewer FTRB), the brass isn’t getting dented anymore, but the extractor stills stamps gun powder into the casing. I may have shortened it too much - I’ll update if it breaks. Pictures attached.

Initial condition. This is a reloaded round, and the dent shown on the bevel came from the first use. You can see light between the breech face and case head. Observe also that the extractor is touching the case bevel:

Marked brass. Dents are visible after cleaned:

Final condition. Extractor is not contacting the case bevel, and the case head is flush against the breech face. Dent from previous use is visible after cleaning:
