ok, after any number of searches here, i decided that for the money, the rem 1100 20 ga. is the shotgun i am wanting - i think. i am after a very lightweight 20 gauge shotgun. the gun's sole purpose is to hunt pheasants. nothing more. fwiw, i don't get that excited about pheasants but it is a family tradition; i'm expected to chase 'em. as such, i want to spend minimally on this gun, $400 is the absolute max, and $300 is better (sorry fellas, my thing is rifles, scatterguns just don't get me all wound up!).

so, after one of the searches on here, i decided i need an 1100 that has the 'lw', or 'lt' (and i assume 'lc' as well). anyway, i found an older 1100 at the gun shop, but nowhere could i find any reference to it being an lt, lc, or lw. the gun had 'imp cyl' stamped on the barrel (no screw in chokes), no ventilated rib, and was in 20 ga... the serial number was L7#####X.

so, is this a light 20 gauge? and is it built on a 20 gauge frame? thanks for any help.

According to the current catalog, the difference between the 1100 LT-20 Synthetic Youth Model and the standard 20 ga. field gun is about 4 ounces (6 3/4 pounds vs. 7 pounds). I would assume (yeah, I know) the longer barrel on the field gun to be responsible for most of the added ounces.

Rather than worrying about who called what when at Remington, I suggest you just weigh the gun. Less than 7 pounds sounds pretty lightweight to me, I can speak for the current Youth Model because I worked over one of them last year for a friend who is handicapped and wanted a 3-gun shotgun. I threatened not to give that one back when I got through with it, it was a real sweet shooter.

Best of luck with your purchase,

ok, thanks!

any idea if a gun w/ that serial number (700,000 - there is an L in front of the first digit, and an X behind the last) is built on a 12 or a 20 frame?

The gun your describing sounds like one of the older ones that was made on a full size receiver, not sure, but my 20ga has LT20 right on the side of the receiver. Even if it is the full size gun it will weigh less because it is the 20ga.

As for the serial # you can contact Remington to get that info. http://www.remington.com/default

Either way the 1100 in 20 ga is an excellent gun.

well, if that's the case, kudu, i'm gonna pass on it. i want a lightweight 20 ga built on a 20 ga frame. i know it is a lot to ask, but that's what i want...

thanks for the input.

Why not just look at a 12 ga. to see that frame size? The difference will then be obvious.

The true 20ga. receiver is quite a bit slimmer, and the guns handle beautifully.
