More gun control in Canada

This was on the UPI news tracker I read this morning. I didn't see it posted so if it was please have it deleted.

TORONTO, June 24 (UPI) -- Toronto's city council, in a bid to clamp down on gun violence, approved canceling the leases of two shooting ranges operating on city property.

The move was the idea of Toronto Mayor David Miller, who last month called target shooting "a hobby that creates danger to others," the Toronto Star reported.

Councilors voted 31-9 Monday night to cancel the leases of a range in the city's east end and one in the downtown Union Station rail station, the Toronto Sun said.

"In a day when you can't bring a large tube of toothpaste on the plane with you, how could we possibly allow guns to wander through Union Station, the biggest transportation hub in Canada?" Miller said.

Bernard Becker, a member of the Union Station gun club board of directors, said the council showed ignorance of gun laws and gun clubs, and said target shooters still have to carry their weapons through Union Station and on public transit to other facilities.

The city bylaw also bans the opening of new gun clubs or gun-related manufacturing facilities, the Sun said.

Their gun clubs are a danger to others the same way Olympic swimming training facilities are a danger to all those kids that drown in their back yard pools every year.

Miller went on to say that the moon is made of cheese and that King Arthur's Round Table is hanging on the wall of Winchester Castle.

I'd love to ask the mayor and city council in Toronto to state exactly how many crimes, deaths, or injuries have been caused by the members of these shooting clubs. I'll bet it's ZERO!! These politicians are so incredibly stupid. If there is a crime and violence problem in Toronto - address THAT problem. Why would they think anything will be solved by addressing what is NOT the problem. We see the same stupid, lack of clear thinking on so many social issues here in the U.S. as well.
 
I think America should invade Canada and liberate us from tyranny! It'll be a lot smoother than Iraq, I promise!

good idea. Someone needs to tell bush so he can get the troops to canada before his term expires. As the new presidents will probably give the military broomsticks and waterguns.

In seriousness, I feel for the citizens of Toronto, and am reminded why it's important to be active in our government.
 
Uh, DogMush, we block your land passage to Alaska's oil fields, and we have oil in Alberta. Canadians probably won't light the oil fields on fire either!

And everybody can have a pet beaver, elk, moose, and deer :)
 
Dunno how much oil Toronto has - but we have a ton of it in Alberta.

You guys are welcome to come up here and save us. Heck my 4th great grand daddy fought with the Connecticut Militia in 1776 against tyranny. Enough water oil natural gas land for farming to keep all of us until the 21st century.

Dave P lots of moose and all the beaver you want. Plenty of oil here . The tar sands are as big as the Middle Eastern supply. We don't blow up cars here. So pack your bags call the White House and please come up..soon...

Toronto's Mayor David Miller was born in San Francisco. Want more? He has a degree in economics from Harvard. Can you imagine that this guy is an economist? He thinks that illegal guns can be stopped by controlling the source.

Maybe he could be convinced to return to San Francisco. He's doing his best to turn once-beautiful Toronto into a dirty dump filled with homeless drug addicts.
