Mosin Nagant 91/30 Trigger, cocking?

I just purchased my first MN 91/30. Other than light research done on the internet, I do not know much of anything about the weapons.

Before and after dissassembly/degreasing/cleaning, when I racked the bolt, the trigger does not do anything. Shouldn't the rifle be cocking? Thus allowing for a "click", when dry fired.

I intend to take it to the place where I got it, just to make sure it is good to go.

Sounds like your trigger pin fell out when you disassembled your rifle. Many of them are a little loose, and it's not hard to lose one. Take it apart again and have a look.

If the trigger pin were out, wouldn't the trigger simply fall out as well?

I would go with the trigger pin also. I have lost one before and the trigger did not fall out. I made a new one out of a nail and it works fine. It fit pretty snug and so will not fall out.

No, the trigger spring/sear would hold it in, but the trigger would have a lot of movement

It probably just has the typical heavy Mosin trigger and you just aren't pulling hard enough!

Did you take it out of the stock? If so, sounds like the firing pin alright. If the trigger moves up & down in the trigger guard, start looking ...

Nope, it wouldn't fall out.

Well, problem fixed! The trigger spring needed to be replaced.
