I cleaned a .22 cal rimfire Mossberg 340 Mod bb for a friend and noticed the trigger can be tripped on closing the bolt at any point before the bolt is closed. I do not see anything out of order. It appears to have been designed this way. Does not seem safe to me. Is anyone familar with this firearm?

No, not especially.
But it seems perfectly normal to me.

But most any bolt-action ever made can be un-cocked the same way while closing the bolt.

Your finger shouldn't be pulling the trigger while closing the bolt, unless you plan to close it with it un-cocked.

Yep. Completely normal to be able to decock a Mossberg bolt action in that fashion.

Mossberg .22 cal model 340bb

Thanks for the reply regarding that 22 mossberg. Actually I surprised myself about an hour after I posted. It's one of those things that come with aging I guess. I had a complete lapse of reason because that firearm strikes the firing pin in a different faction not as my own rifles do and I have to admitt my normal reasoning left me at that point. Thanks for the reply.Safe shooting. abc7
