So I'm having a new issue I've never had before in a pump gun. Apparently what's happening is sometimes I'll have to pump 2 times to get a shell into the chamber...like the lifter isn't releasing the shell and/or grabbing it.

Since I've never had this issue before, I thought I'd pose the question and see about how to diagnose and correct it.

took a closer look and it actually looks like the shell stop isn't getting depressed properly...my camera battery is charging but I'll have a really good pic coming of the issue in action. A burr on the edge of the tab perhaps?

this was taken after ejecting a shell and trying to ram another one home. it shouldve been in the chamber with the action closed...if that makes sense. I don't feel like the shell latch is bent, but the edge of it feels like it may be rough/need to be sanded. It seems too minor to be causing this kind of an issue. I did smoothe out some rough areas with high grit sand paper yesterday, but it's not like i railed on anything..it was all pretty light. i never really function tested it with shells before i did that anyway. The feeding issue is so bad right now sometimes I'll have to pump it (i rack with AUTHORITY too) 6-7 times before I hear and feel it feed. one thing i can say about the gun is its already the smoothest mossberg ive ever used from the stuff ive done to it, but the issue needs to be corrected.

In other words, AUN, you filed down something on the elevator or the shell stops a bit too far and it stopped working? lol

Head to gunbroker and buy new innards and start over and this time, don't file so much.

haha actually I didn't file much at all. I think I may just have a bad or bent cartidge stop (left side of receiver). When it's in the gun it tends to pop out of it's ride and point upward for some reason. Whereas most stay in their groove, this seems to pop out. If I had my camera I could take a picture. I'll probably throw one up when I get it returned here tonight or tomorrow. I could also take a picture comparing it to my Mariner's version. They look a TINY bit different on the ends - the area where it's popping out of the ride and poking up. you can actually see it in the picture..it's supposed to be more in the groove than that.

Either way, not a huge deal. Havlin sells them for 8 bucks, Mossberg will probably send me one free. I wish I knew whether I did it or not. I sanded the area in question, but really lightly. By hand, not a dremel. I really didn't rail on it. I've probably racked the thing a thousand times this week though literally. It is SO smoothe right now. Still a Mossberg guy!!! This is the first time I've encountered this. How frequent is it? I've heard about it before on 500's. Is this Mossbergs rough express chamber type issue?

Your picture shows the actuation lug on the shell stop is on the wrong side of the action bar. This could have happened simply from incorrect re-assembly, or because the front of the shell stop is bent.

Not a big deal - if it is bent, then just adjust it (bend it back). Make sure the small lug rides on the other side of the action bar.

good call mn. I believe its bent or sheared. As said before when I dropped my Mariner's cartridge stop in, still using the same interruptor, it does fine and it stays inside the groove. You can see in the pic the cartridge stop is clearly protruding outside of it's ride. It bothers me though when I compare the Mariner stop and the bent/sheared 500 stop, I can only see a very minimal difference. I'm gonna definitely stock up on stops, extractors and interruptors....

I have to admit when I read your question, AUN, I didn't really bother to look at the pic. MNR is right. Your elevator *should* be pushing that stop backward into the slot in the action bar the sec it hits that exact spot. Have you bent your elevator a bit narrower to ease a rub by any chance?

Try your other elevator and see if it helps that stop. Don't switch out the stop, just the elevator.
