I have the perfect candidate: My Mossberg Persuader was purchased a couple years ago as a gift from my ex-fiancee before she left the picture. There's really no sentimental value in the gun, it was on sale at Academy for just over $200 at the time of purchase. I have fired it on only one occasion so far, out at the family ranch and verified the short 18.5" barrel to be impractical for more than home defense, which is a constant concern for me.

I have started the necessary paperwork and will be seeking CLEO signoff when I'm ready and I have the $200 earmarked. I have a friend who does all of my metal fabrication in mind to do the deed when all is legally ready...

Honestly can't think of a better situation, but I just wanted to verify: my gun came with the full stock and pistol grip from Mossberg - I want to register as an SBS (with full stock) and NOT an AOW (pistol grip) because I could not legally put the stock back on if it is the latter, correct?

Yes. If it was a full-stocked gun, then it will be an SBS when you convert it, regardless of whether you have the full stock on it or not.

How many shots will it hold at 14" barrel length? Sounds like it will be a nice compact home defense weapon.

The magazine tube is unmodified at that barrel length, I still get the 5+1 capacity.

Would 4" really be that much of a difference? Perhaps an adjustment to technique is more warranted?
