Are the Mossberg Plinksters any good for a low end rifle. Will they hold up to thousands upon thousands of rounds or is the design just that...cheap? I'm looking for a good buy in a 22lr rifle.

Bought one for my son to beat around with last Christmas, and he has run 10,000+ rounds through it and it has worked just fine. It is NOT the rifle that the lil Marlin 60 is, but it is a pretty decent little gun. I would hit the pawn shops pick up a used 60 for the same, or a little less money, or spend another $40 for a new 60 were it me, but if you want to open a NIB gun for $100 bucks then it is pretty much fine.

Ive got one and it never has been extremely reliable even after extensive cleaning sessions
it does shoot more reliably after the hard cleaning
about 40% of the time the gun wont chamber another round after firinging and it has alot of light strikes on the primers
maybe i just have a dud but id suggest you save for a better quality gun

No. Not even close. For 129 there are better ways to spend that gun money... such as throwing another $20 on it and get a Marlin. Done. Then you have a solid gun. Can't afford a new Marlin? Then buy a used Marlin for 75 bucks to 80 bucks... done deal.

My wife's plinkster has been flawless. It's extremely lightweight for a fully stocked .22, and is actually quite accurate. She loves it, and I like it a lot too...

Our plinkster just went through its first range session with my boy and performance was flawless. 
I believe these Plinksters are Brazilian copies of the Marlin 795. You just need to clean them well before your first shoot as it comes with lots of packing grease around the bolt when new from the factory. So much so that I doubt it would have run well if I went straight to the range from the store with it.

Yeah, I think you are right.
The internals look about the same and the Marlin 795 is a clip fed version of the Model 60.
Mossberg doesn't feature that pesky microgroove rifling either.
I have to say I have never considered this particular design to be the end all of all other .22 rifle lines.
Reliability can be iffy and a target grade rifle they are not, but as trainers and general purpose shooters they do just fine.

Uh, they do tend to be accurate .22's with that pesky stuff...
Turner's in California has wood Marlin 60s new for $120 as part of their holiday sale. They sometimes sell 795's for $100.
$129 for the Mossberg is too much. Marlin's guns tend to be top quality for whatever segment they're in, IMO, so for the same or similar price, I'd get a Marlin.

my buddy brought one over and we decided it was the same gun as the magtech .22 i bought for my wife years ago. (i told everyone it was love because i bought her a gun!) neither of us have ever had any problems with ours except maybe needing more time off to shoot them!

I shot my Plinkster for the first time today. For the most part, it worked very well. The gun itself functioned flawlessly. I have two clips, the one that came with it and an extra I bought with the gun. One of them kept jamming. It didn't seem to want to let go of the round. I think it's the one that came with the gun. Once I stopped using that clip everything worked great! I put about 100 rounds through it today without a single issue. The gun is a blast to shoot.

I got a Plinkster a little less than a year ago. Have had no problems with it except for wishing I had bought extra magazines so I could keep shooting it with less interruptions for reloading.
