I second the Ruger P94DC for reliablility and my Sig P6 is a also a very good option, I just picked up a Taurus 24/7 compact, I can't quote for reliablilty (haven't shot it yet) but for price, capacity and ergos, I give it top marks.

Ghost Walker:

Respectfully, in my experience the HK P7 IS also both accurate and reliable.:) Actually, amazingly accurate, and absolutely (as much as a pistol could be) reliable.

No offense.

Actually, Turkey has had a fine firearms making tradition for hundreds of years. Now if it said "Made in Khyber Pass" I might be a little worried. :)

One more vote for the CZ 75b. I bought one in June as my heavy, steel, house/car/range pistol, and I have definitely not regretted the purchase. I try to go to the range every 1-2 weeks, and lately I have caught my self thinking that its not really worth packing up many of my guns for every trip, I know the CZ is going to be in my hand most of the time. I wound up buying my CZ from Bass pro for $545, but there is a local gun store here that has a new one for $489 :banghead:

As an added bonus, if you get the CZ, later on you can get buy the excellent Kadet kit for .22 plinking. The second time I took the kadet kit to the range I wound up keeping my target, it was the best shooting I had ever done with a pistol, and I wanted proof to show my shooting buddies. Best of luck with your purchase.

I have a Beretta 92 Compact I paid less than $320 for A Beretta 92 FS for 400 ans a Sig P6 less than $340. All used guns reliable and accurate. The Berettas are both Italian made too. I have a soft spot for used police guns. I also have 2 9mm shorts by Beretta and Sig I paid less than $400 each. These are used police guns. The great side to buying used is they are very unlikely to lose value

I would also put the P228 on this list. My guess is that the used Zurich guns being brought in by PW Arms will be under $500

You were correct, $499 to be exact (Grade I). A bit pricey but they're German made.
I ordered one of the few left yesterday...thanks for the heads up.

The Walther P5 is my pick every time. I've never found another handgun that was as accurate, reliable, dependable, or easy to care for, and like most here I've handled a lot of firearms through the years. SOG was selling German police trade-ins not long ago for $379 or thereabouts. In my view, it's still the best buy out there -- by far.

If you own a G17 you already have one of the most "reliable" and "accurate" 9mm ever produced. A Glock will always fire and will be more accurate than most of us can shoot anyway. If you just want to spend money, buy another Glock. Maybe a 19?

Glock 17 is combat accurate and very reliable. It is not even close to the most accurate 7 reliable 9mm ever produced.... I agree that they are more accurate then most shooters but then again so is
Bersa thunder 9mm :barf:

S&W 2nd and 3rd gen 9mm are underappreciated, undervalued and overlooked...BUT will shoot as well as most of the previously mentioned pistols. Plus they will eat ANY type of ammo loaded in their mags

+1. I bought these two last December. The 459 was $330, and the 5906 was $339. The plastic was flying off the shelves, but not these S&W 2nd and 3rd generation autos. It seemed that nobody wanted them. It's fine with me if the trend is to pay $500+ for the latest plastic fantastic pistol. I have fun shopping around for these S&W guns that are built like a brick s*** house. Even with the buying craze, with some looking around at gun/pawn shops, gun shows, etc., they can still be found for under $400.

if you already own a G17, your post should say: "SECOND most accurate and reliable 9mm under $500":)

for that i'd +1 the Steyr M9-A1, great highly-underrated gun!

You really can not go wrong with any Glock model in 9mm...Preferably either 19 or 26.
