The Untold Story of Gun Confiscation After Katrina is an NRA video that you need to watch and tell your friends about. It's especially worth looking at if you're one of the many people who say that there's no need to worry that it can't happen here. It did.

And if you're one of the people who say that the NRA doesn't do anything to ensure your right to keep and bear arms .... I doubt that anything will change your mind, so enjoy the video anyway. :)

Bill O'Reilly should have to watch this video. He called the female senior citizen "deranged" Obiviously, she is not.

That's f*&%ed up. Not very highroad, but that's about all I can think of to describe it.

That IS violating their rights and I hope they get justice.

Easy to say in MD, K-Romulus. I have family in New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Lafayette and Metarie... MANY were required to leave and those who stayed behind were disarmed and left to stay in their homes.

P.S.

I was told by people who were there that were gunfights, but not many.

CHUI:

I was being facetious. "Progressive Intellectuals" is my bugaboo catchall term for anti-gun-owner bigots who look down on gun owners. (Long story).

I have seen numerous instances of editorials and anti-gun-owner internet comments that deny the confiscations took place. I only linked the first decent example I found through Yahoo. Those folks at "gunguys" routinely claim that the NRA is making the story up as a way to generate donations.

anything really new?

I have these videos that were around at the time:
New Orleans September 2005 Gun Confiscation
Source : Subject, Filesize, Dnld name
ABC: NOLa confiscate order, 10,204,368; abcnews.mpeg
Ch2 SF CA: CHiPs sworn in, 5,127,268; CHP1.asx
CNN: Forced Evacuation, 8,798,026; ForcedEvacCNN.htm
"Treat me with benign neglect!"--O'Dwyer
Ch2 SF CA: CHiPs & Patricia Konie, 7,924,296; CHP2.asx
"I don't want you in here!"
Ch2 SF CA: Superdome Evacuees, 6,714,224; SuperDome.asx

All we need to know is, we shouldn't plan to take care of ourselves,
the government is there to do what it thinks that we need done for us.

Carl, is there any way to obtain a copy of those files? I've been downloading articles since Sept 11th and I now have 10 Gigabytes of very interesting information on a wide array of issues. I'd send you a copy for a copy of the files listed.

Thank in advance.

Did any of those people end up getting their firearms back? I know that Nagin was dragging his feet and had to be taken to court.

disgusting! Watching this video made me want to puke:barf:

What gives the government the right to do something like this, in the aftermath of such a disaster people have a right to protect themselves, their families and what possesions they have left.:fire: Another case of the New Orleans police overstepping their bounds.

If someone threatened my safety by removing my protection, I don't know what I'd do - but I guarantee that whether or not they were acting on behalf of the government would be a non-issue.

I just saw this shocking video elsewhere and I was going to post it here myself.

Thing is, some of the victims arent exactly 'gun nuts', the two women shown (the elderly woman and the middle aged black woman) look like they had just your typical self defense handguns, and fairly small ones at that.

Didnt the NOPD (I always found that abbreviation very ironic after Katrina) chief get canned very quickly after this?

The video shows one guy showing the camera crew 2 hunting rifles that were taken, so presumably some people got theirs back.

I feel sorry for those who didnt have paperwork for their arms.

You could get your guns back... you had to go downtown and PROVE they were yours.

Hard for private sales, let alone after Katrina.

The Marine Corps got mine back for me.

That is really disturbing. I don't know to what extreme I'd go in that situation, but I don't imagine it would end well.

Jack booted thugs comes to mind. Seeing them pounce on that old lady who was standing there with the revolver cylinder open and her fingers thru the empty cylinder area just makes me sick and reflects on police officers badly, very badly.

Can you say....Abuse of Power?

She has the California Highway Patrol to thank for that. What the hell THEY were doing there is beyond me!

They should've been out patrolling a California highway.

One hell of an eye-opener, eh?

Somehow it just doesn't seem to fit with the image of America.

I'll have to confess to being a bit surprised that the good citizens weren't stirred to organized revolt by this outrage.

To me, episodes such as this really serve to belie the notion that the RKBA struggle is ultimately nothing more than some kind of legal and legislative game of chess.
