Hey guys, I just built this over the course of the last couple of weeks and wanted to share. I built it for the purpose of shooting a local .22 match.

The match is shot at 50 yards using Rimfire Association targets. All participants must shoot Wolf Match Target ammunition which is provided by the range so that we will all be shooting from the same lot. It's a part of the owners intent to "level" the playing field to keep things as competitive as possible, in light of the broad range of equipment that people use.

I'm hoping to shoot the match next weekend and need to get this into shape.

I used an old 10/22 that I had. Added an Adams & Bennett barrel, Boyd's tacticool stock, Clark trigger, Tactical Solutions rail, Burris Signature Zee rings and a Vortex PST 6-24X50 scope.

Well, here it is....

I shot it last weekend, before bedding the action/barrel and shot a 2000 with it using the regulation target, if that means anything to anyone. I'm new to the rimfire thing and am not sure if the target is standard.

Anyone have any pointers?

Gonna be hard to improve on that setup! Clark is putting an overtravel screw in the triggers, correct? You might wanna take it for a spin at your nearest Appleseed event to see where you stand.

Well, i didn't know what else to do with the scope. I decided not to put it on my .308. I'm either going to get another Nightforce or sell the rifle. The jury is stil out as to whether it's going to work out on the .22.

AR27, man, I was wondering what ever happened with that. I couldn't even remember who it was that I sent it too. I'll assume that Eotech took care of it in one fashion or another. Good for him. I'm glad it worked out.

As for the tacticool stock, I like it a lot. After a little shooting, the need to bed became pretty evident though. It wasn't too hard. I used JB Kwik and it went pretty kwikly.

I just wanted to update. The rig as I had it just wasn't getting me the results that I wanted, so I redid it. It now has a Kidd barrel and bolt and now it does what I wanted it to do.

BTW, the scope is on its way back to Vortex. What do you guys think of the newer Mueller that has the side focus on it?

Looks good. I'll bet the improvement is from the Kidd bolt. Ruger bolts headspace at .055-.058, the Kidd should be close to .048. Head spacing and pinning my bolt did more for accuracy than all other mods combined.

What Mueller are you looking at? The Mueller 8-32×44 Target Scope looks interesting, I haven't handled one in person. I have the Mueller APV on mine.

Madcratebuilder, actually the barrel made a world of difference for me. Groups tightened up a lot as compared to those that I fired from the A&B barrel. What the bolt did for me was get rid of the fliers.

This is the scope that I'm looking at....http://muelleroptics.com/mu83244td

I haven't handled it myself either, but I did get to try out a Savage with an APV on it this past weekend and I was thoroughly impressed with it. It was a nice scope.

Looks good! My Mueller 4-16x has been excellent. It's survived several hard bumps without incident and I wouldn't hesitate to get another. Been thinking real hard about the APT. You talking about the 8-32x target model? It would certainly be my choice over the 1" Eraticator.

Nice looking gun! I have a 10/22 that I've been thinking about doing something with...

So, what kind of groups are you getting with it?

I think I'm going to pass on the Mueller. I've been doing some research and it appears that it only has about 20 minutes of internal elevation adjustment. That isn't going to do for me. I'll stick with the Vortex PST for now. If that craps out on me, I'm going to go with a Sightron SIII.

Tim, I've never really measured the groups. So far, I've found two types of ammunition that it likes. Wolf Match Target (haven't tried any other premium ammo yet) and Federal Auto Match in the bulk packs. I haven't measured groups because I built the rifle to shoot matches and shooting groups isn't what it's all about.

I can say this though. On my last trip to the range, I was there for a few hours and only used one target which consisted of 25 1" circles. When the range went cold, I just covered those 25 1" circles with 1" stick on targets and kept reusing the same target. In other words, all of my hits were within those 1" circles. So...I don't know about group sizes, but it handles transitions from one target to the next very consistently.

I don't regret the upgrades for a second. The only thing that I can say is that, if you are considering upgrading your 10/22, don't hesitate on the Kidd stuff. After having wasted my time on the likes of Green Mountain and Adams & Bennett, I'm wishing that I had just gotten the Kidd in the first place.

How much elevation adjustment does a 22LR need?

Well, using a 50 yard zero, I have to dial in almost 6 minutes of elevation just to get to 100 yards with standard velocity ammo. With Federal Auto Match, I have to dial in 4 minutes to get to 100 yards. I'm going to guess that I'll run out of elevation getting to 200, if I only have 20 minutes of total elevation travel.

CraigC, thanks for the confirmation. I'm just going to stick with the Vortex PST for now and see if the third try is the charm. It's supposed to have something along the lines of 65 minutes of internal elevation adjustment. That should do me. Although I was feeling a little funny about having a fairly expensive scope on a .22, it is a nice scope. Since I already have it, I may as well use it.

The only other rifle that I had that I could use the scope on was sold last night anyway.

I have done a few modifications on my 10/22 (namely the trigger, stock, and bbl) as well, but I still get a flyer from time to time. I think I may try my hand at headspacing the bolt a bit tighter and see if that helps. If that fails, I might spring for that Kidd replacement.

BTW, there is no shame in using a good optic on a .22LR...they often get more use than all other rifles combined anyway.

:)

Maverick and Craig, I hear ya. To tell the truth, the scope is worth more than the rifle on all of my rigs, now that I have the PST on the .22. Honestly, I was shopping for another scope because this is the second time that I've had to send the PST back to Vortex and I'm rapidly losing faith in it. Already, two matches are going to be a pooch screw for me because of this scope. Still, it is supposed to be a nice scope, so I'm going to give it another try. Money is sort of getting a little tighter these days and really don't want to have to buy a piece of equipment as a backup for a rimfire, so I'm of the feeling that I'll either keep the PST or replace it, but I don't want to have to keep two scopes around. That's why I'm being so "on the fence" about it. I'd like to keep the PST, but don't trust it.

wyncollector, getting the bolt done will help out with the fliers, at least. Go look around at rimfirecentral.com there are a couple of places that do bolt work.

Have you tried Pride Fowler Scopes? They have a BDC type reticle calibrated for 22 LR Hv.

I have this one on my Anschutz sporter and it works as advertised out to 200 yds. ttp://www.rapidreticle.com/22lr3-9x32.htm

Midway has them for $ 305.00 and on occasion I have seen them on Gunbroker for $275.00

I have no problem hitting inside of 1" out to 100 yds., tennis balls at 200 yds. and everything in between. If you know the range (I use a laser in the field) this is a very fast and accurate scope.
