I'm happy with my average right now so I'm taking the rest of the series off, (I think), since I have enough scores submitted for league. So last evening I took my youngest boy. He's a smaller guy so he shot my slightly customized, iron sighted, SS MKII Target Bull barrel, two handed . This was his first time. He shot two 600's with a gun that's probably too heavy for him. I even took that heavy VQ compensator off.

He's not happy with his scores, but that's just him. I am extremely happy with how he presented himself. And that he put every shot on paper.

There's a younger teen that shoots Pins, a young girl that shoots Varmint and Falling plate matches at our club. (She's even won the Varmint match. Beating her dad and several other very experienced rifle shooters!) I haven't seen any youngsters shoot IPSC at our club. There is a youth light rifle group.

I know many of you have kids, and take them shooting for hunting or target practice, but how many of you that shoot friendly competition allow your teen to come along and/or take part in the same competition that you do?

Tell him congrats on the first shoot. We need to get more youngsters involved in the shooting sports. At least we have a pretty active Junior program down here (TSRA) and our local club is sponsoring some 4H shooters. I'm supposed to help out with coaching when their practice sessions start in April.

My older son shot bowling pins, steel, PPC and rifle matches with me starting about 12 years of age. That lasted till he got a job out of state.

My younger son, 15, is a Bullseye shooter on a local Jr. Pistol Team.
He shoots local matches all winter and made his first trip to Perry last summer.
He's also shot steel, PPC and benchrest .22 rifle matches with me.

Both started shooting with air rifles at six or seven.

My son is 15 and has been shooting bullseye for 4 years now. With him shooting he has been able to get 2 other teens shooting at our club. He is going to shoot at his first sectional on the 23rd so we will see how he can do at a 900 match.
Steve tell your son to keep up the good work so in a few years he can kick Dads butt. (their eye sight kills ours).

Mike
