Today, nearly a week after the vote, I got this automated response from Sen. Bayh's office:

Thank you for your recent message. Senator Bayh appreciates your
willingness to share your views with him. However, our system has detected
that your e-mail has originated outside of our webform and will,
therefore, not reach its intended recipient.

In order to better serve our Indiana constituents and to protect the
integrity of Senator Bayh's email system, we have designed a series of
forms located at http://bayh.senate.gov/WebMail1.htm that you can use to
contact our office. Mass communications not originating from our webform
cannot be accepted at this time.

The concerns of all Americans are important to Senator Bayh. However, due
to limited staff resources, responses will be sent only to Indiana
residents. For additional information on Senator Bayh's work representing
Indiana, please visit Senator Bayh's website at http://bayh.senate.gov or
sign up for Senator Bayh's monthly newsletter at
http://bayh.senate.gov/signup.htm.

Thank you again for sharing your concerns.

IMPORTANT: Please do not reply to this email. It is an automated service
and you will get no response.

Looks like you just need to go through the forms for a response. No spam that way for them. It's unfortunate the system was bogged down enough to take nearly a week to respond.

Gee. I used the Senate's email service and specifically asked for an answer. I identified myself as being an Indiana resident.

Still have heard nothing from either Bayh or Lugar.

Idiots.:fire:

Well if you read this quote the way I did:

"Mass communications not originating from our webform
cannot be accepted at this time."

I emailed him from the webform that GOA had set up on their website to make it easier for us to hammer them about the vote. The spam you refer to in this case, was mass mailings from all us GOA members.

So in other words if I started a thread on here that said email your senator at [email protected] (the more common method) his server would deliberately bounce it. The webform probably has a database underneath it that searches your submission for keywords and sends a canned response so they don't even have to read what you say.

I guess snail mail and phone calls may be the best method.

I called his offices in Washington and Indianapolis the day after the vote to register my anger at his vote. At both offices I was told that Luger was one of the original sponsors of the AW ban in 94, so he had to support it. I told them that they had lost my vote forever and that I would rather have a Democrat as Senator that I knew was an enemy rather than someone who would turn on you and stab you in the back. I was assured that the Senator "would sit down and write a letter to you explaining his position" I am sure that is what is taking so long. I am not getting a canned response, Luger is going to write me personally.

I still have not received my response.

P.S. The staffers were not interested in trying to explain how the AW ban curbed crime or why the Senator after sponsoring a bad bill would feel obliged to vote for it again just to stay constent.
