Howdy,

Here are some pics of my new Glenfield Model 30, 30-30

Bought used for $400

I'm gonna scope it today, I'll post more pics once I get the scope on.

All I know about it is that its all the same machinisms as the Marlin 336, But the Glenfield has a birch stock instead of walnut.

If yall have got anymore info or reccomendations I'd love to hear em! thanks!

I bought a Glenfield M30 about 4 years ago for $150. It's a GREAT rifle and it actually has ballard rifling so it shoots cast bullets very well.

Oh, nice! I love the 2/3 magazine Marlins; that shorter tube under the barrel gives the rifle a sleek look.

Those Glenfields remind me of the Marlin 30AS I inherited from an uncle 12 years ago. The 30AS was also a budget model 336, like the Glenfields. I'm pretty sure mine's a birch stock (it ain't walnut); with no checkering, no sling studs, and with cheaper looking iron sights than you would find on a 336. But basically they are 336's without all the fancy extras. Mine shoots as good as any 336 in 30-30 that I've ever seen. I put on some aftermarket sling studs and mounted a Leupold 1-4x 20mm scope in Weaver rings (receiver was already drilled and tapped) and it's now my favorite woods rifle. Those Marlin budget guns are impressive in my experience with mine and from a couple Glenfield owners I've talked to. Looks like you got yourself a 30-30 that you're gonna like.

HEY! WHERE'S THE STAG? ! ? ! ? !

I've got a Glenfield/Marlin as well. But mine has the full length magazine and the embossed checkering with the stag on the pistol grip area.

The times I've had it out plinking it's proven to be a capable shooter. And thanks for that info about the Ballard style rifling and cast ArchAngel. That's good to know.

This is my Glenfield model 30GT bought at a Western Auto store in 1979. I was told that the stock is beech wood. It's accurate and dependable. The large muley was taken in western South Dakota on public land.

30-30 is a keeper!

OP, yours is lovely. mine had the stag heads on the stock as well. Other than a less than desirable (cosmetically) stock it's a straight up 336. Fantastic gun. As far as scoping it goes, you will want the scope as low as possible. For me, that meant the warne 1 piece base (they are about 1/8" lower than everybody elses' bases) and burris low rings. Personally I like a 2-7x scope, and you will want one with as small an eyepiece as you can get. leupold/redfield and weaver seem to have the sleekest ones. If you get too chunky an eye piece, you have to mount the scope high so the hammer clears the scope, but then your head floats around off the gun stock when you are looking through the gun. Best of luck.

Very nice rifle. I love the 1/2 mag lever actions. I have a first year(early 60s) Marlin/Glenfield M36 with microgroove. Looks just like yours. The wood on mine looks like walnut. I also have a Marlin 30TK that was sold through K-Mart in the early 1980s. This one has a smooth straight grip and square finger bow. !/2 mag. Both shoot the Lee 150gr FP cast from WWs and heat treated great.

Very nice rifles, all.
I've just won an auction for one, and it comes with the original 4X scope, rings, and base.
The rifle looks as good as yours, in all the pictures. Seller says the bore is great, so I plan on taking at least one white tail with it this year.
Frankly, from what I've learned about 30-30 levers, I'd prefer this rifle over many, especially the Win 94, and the new Marlin 336.

I have 8 Marlin leverguns and my Glenfield 30G is one of my favorites. I cut the barrel down to 16 1/4" and added a Vortex 1-4 V-Brite scope for night time hog hunting. Some of the birch wood is very plain, yours is very nice. Mine was almost tiger striped. BTW I looked up the characteristics and birch is denser and somewhat harder than walnut...just not normally as attractive.

I dropped it off at the gun shop last week to get it scoped and laser bore sighted. Im gonna go in there today and see if its done. As soon as it is i'll post more pics.

Para cord sounds nice.
Mine is actually nylon boot lace. I buy black and brown. One pair does 2 Marlins. Can someone say "cheap".
