My new gun . I still haven't zeroed it perfectly at 100 yds. I'll report back with my results at 100 ;)

What height rings do you use? I had some Leupold mediums and the AO on the scope just barely touched the barrel so I couldn't turn it.

I am ordering some highs, but I think that the heavy barrel may have been the culprit.

It doesn't touch the barrel, but its really close. I use Medium Burris Steel Zee rings.

300 rounds so far, and it keeps on grouping about 2-3 inches at 100. I'm not impressed at all. The scope bases/rings are on tight, and the stock screws are in somewhat snug but not too tight. I made sure to push back the barrel towards the ground when putting the action back into the stock. I'm thinking about a CZ.

Seriously.. I can group nearly the same with my SKS and open sights at 100 yds. I didn't expect this 17 to be this way.

I mean.. it could be me not used to a thumbhole stock, but I highly doubt it. can I re-sell this thing for $380 without the scope/rings/box you think?

Any recommendations as to what I can do to fix it? I'm assuming a gun doesn't need much more than 300 rounds to be broken in :barf:

The only thing I could think of is what ammo are you shooting? Have you tried different brands and weights? If not I would start there. I think that gun should shoot better groups.

It shouldn't need any more break in and I would be careful not to "over clean". My Savage shoots fine with only minimal cleaning and I always shoot a few fouling shots before shooting for groups.

It was a really windy day, and I shot 40 Hornady 20gr XTp's, and about 20 Hornady 17 gr VMAX's. The 20gr's grouped under 1 inch mostly at 50 yards. At 100 yards the 20gr's grouped just a tad over an inch with 5 shots. I'll try again and decide on a calm day. It's actually shooting the 20gr's surprisingly well now, and especially on a windy day.

I'm thinking my gun likes the 20 gr's WAY more.
