Got this Star BM 9mm today. Plan on nickeling it. I love this feel of this little plinker. I need to work on my photography skills. If someone can help me, I'd like to post a picture of it before it's makeover. Please email me if you can reduce the file size for me. Thanks.

Check Shotgun News. Somebody there had new-manufactured wood grips for these. Cost was about $10.00-15.00 as I remember. Really makes them look nice. I've got a couple of BM's and I think I'll get a couple more. Also SOG has extra mags.

They're good little guns. I like the way mine fits my hand, it's almost as if it were made for me. I'm in the process of rebluing mine.

BTW, I've found that parts for the Star BKS Starlight fit this gun. I've used the mag release and barrel bushing from the BKS in my BM.

I'm ordering one of these and a Bulgie Mak from SOG today...

Is your from SOG? and if so, did you pay the handpick fee? It looks pretty good...

I got it at a local shop...

I forked out 250.00 for it. A good bit more than online prices but I figured by the time I paid S&H anf FFL fees and all that, I'd be close to that anyhow and I was always relucatant because I couldn't feel the gun. When I felt this one I was ready to do it. My gun man said (and this may be bull:cuss: ) that some where made a little better than others. Something like some were military/police guns and others were civilian, something like that, and that the military ones were better to have. I don't know but I liked the gun. He had two and the other one had less wear on the finish but I was planning on refinishing anyhow so I wasn't concerned. Now I just need to find some nice grips.

Bm...

BM stands for Ballester-Molina ? What kind of part options do I have for this gun? I know nothing about them.

BM doesn't stand for Ballester Molina. It's a model description, that Star was casual with. I believe the B stands for 9mm chambering. On the BKS model, the K stood for the aluminum frame, and the S indicated that it has a magazine disconnect safety. I think the M means it's the compact model.

Also, be aware that the firing pin may be non-inertial, and that you should dry fire it with a snap cap in place to minimize stress on it. IIRC you have to move the rear sight to get the firing pin out, so it's a bit involved.

I think the nicest thing about the Star B series is that they are efficiently sized for the 9mm cartridge. Compact, flat guns that carry and handle well, with a very effective thumb safety.

Great guns. I have two. One shoots one hole groups at 25' and has a great trigger. The other is not quite as accurate but still much much better than almost any new pistol that you can buy off the shelf for under $500. The more accurate of the two will outshoot every semi-auto ceterfire pistol that I have owned. This includes some expensive 1911s, Berettas, SIGS, CZs, Rugers, S&Ws, Colts, Springfields, and BHPs. I am shocked but happy. I found a gem and I am going to keep it. Most people who look at it are not impressed but I am because I know what it can do.

$250 is a little high but not more than it is worth to have a qaulity pistol. Hey, they don't make them any more they are not going to be cheap for long. Once word gets out and supply dries up a bit, $250 will be an average again. They were about $200-250 until a few months ago when a large shipment was imported and drove down the price. Don't worry about it one bit. If you keep it for a few years and if you like it, you won't even remember the price, you will just be happy you hung on to it instead of selling it.

never measured my BM to see exactly what size it was, maybe I'll have to try that next time......I'm thinking it's much bigger than 9mm....
