My new to me Security Six

Picked this up at a local pawn shop I frequent for $149. It came with the ugliest pearl grips Id ever seen. I bought some factory replacements for $13 (shipped) off of ebay and Im gonna pick up some new rear sights. Im considering duracoating it as the finish is pretty well worn. I took it apart and its functionally great. Its the older Security Six so im kinda limited on the grips anyway. Im starting to warm up to this gun.

Congrats on your purchase. Your Security Six will clean up and make a excellent shoot. Security Sixes are tough as nails and will probably out live you. Enjoy you new revolver.

You did exceptionally well. A lot of us would rank the Sixes as some of the finest DA .357's out there. I have come to absolutely love them. They're durable, can take sustained shooting at the range, but they're not as bulky as the GP100.

The only thing I've had go wrong with mine is a bent ejector rod that unscrewed itself. That was an easy fix with the brass hammer and a vise. Otherwise they take the abuse and keep on trucking. They field strip by removing one screw.

No need to recoat, BTW. The blue is tough on those and will last indefinitely with basic care.

I know, I thought it was a misprint or something. Even though I had to juggle a few bills to come up with it right away, I had to buy it before someone else did.

Try out a set of Hogue Monogrips on it. Not as pretty as the wood, but you'll like them better when shooting.

Here is a picture of my Police Service Six wearing Hoque rubber grips. They are excellent for shooting 357 magnums. They cost around $18 and are worth every penny. They sure help tame recoil.

OP's gun appears to be one of the early "low-back" models.

There are NO aftermarket grips available for that model.

Existing finish has character.
Duracoat on that gun would look like crap.

Don't Dura Coat it, get some Flitz and "GENTLY" give it a little cleaning up, it'll grow on you, leave it as is!!

At $149 for a Security Six, you did very well. That's less than what I bought mine for NIB back in the late '70s. Also factor in how the dollar has devalued over four decades and you got it at a giveaway price. Kudos.

BTW, mine wears Pachmayr grips (the old two piece made in America version).

Great price on a fantastic revolver. At that price it's a perfect candidate for a hard chrome finish. But like someone else already said it has character as it is.

I probably will skip the duracoat finish. Just gotta wait for the new sights to show up. Ive never changed sights before, but they came off quite easily. I think the grips were the most damaged part of the gun.

Havent had a chance to shoot it yet, but Im hoping to before Christmas.
