Well, the pic below are my 2 completed ARs'. The one with the adjustable stock is in 5.56 and is my midlength setup. I previously put it together to be my "social" AR. Well, I have decided to build an SBR to take the role of my "social" AR, so I thought I would go a different direction for this one. It HAD an Aimpoint on it and an ARMS #40 BUIS on the rear. I removed the two and installed a Leupold VXI 3-9x40 scope on it held on by some see through Leupold rings. I plan to use this for general varmint control.

The second is my most recent completion. It is in 6.8SPC. I built this gun to specifically use it for hog and deer hunting. It is a high rise DPMS upper so I do not need to use any high mount rings. These are perfect. It is also dressed up with a Leupold VXI 3-9x40 scope so I can have some optical commonality among the 2 AR's.

When time (and funding) allows, I will put together my SBR. I plan to use my last Global Tactical (STAG) lower and do something in a 7.5" barrel in 5.56. It will wear an EoTech and although its going to be 7.5", it will wear full carbine length float tubes. Its going to be ALL rail with a nice Krink flash hider. Should be fun...I will let yall know when that materializes.

For now, see what I have all together done!

Nice work, Guy! Apparently just like me you like scopes mounted low. How high are those see through Leopold rings? If they turn out to be a little too low after a few range sessions you could replace them with a one-piece Armalite mount. The Armalite mount is at the same level as the factory iron sights. They're sturdy as heck, provide forward offset and cost about $89.

What's the barrel diameter on the 6.8 SPC? Have you put it through it's paces at the range yet? I was wondering what it's printing.

Well done! ;) I recently completed my AR's & I couldn't be happier...don't forget to tell us how they shoot!

My 6.8 Barrel came from here:

I am not sure of the diameter of it though.

The see through rings seem to be right on for that upper since its a regular height upper. Since I went with a high profile upper on my 6.8, using regular rings was also perfect. Overall, they seem to have nearly indentical scope heights.

My plan is to get out to the range this Thursday to sight them in. I have shot the 5.56 before (300-400 rounds), but thats when it had irons and the red dot on it.

No, the front sight will not be seen through the scope..unless maybe, just maybe, it is a very low power scope, say around a 1-2x. I have a 3x9 on mine and I can't see the front sight post even at 3x.

Does the front sight obstruct your view? I've been thinking about getting a scope for my flattop AR...

No, the front sight is inside the focal length of the objective lens at most magnifications. If you are an astronomy buff, you can see the same thing by standing in front of a telescope that somebody is using to look at the stars. The view might get a bit dimmer; but they can still see the stars just fine even though you are dead in the center of the objective.

With very nice glass and good eyes, you might see a shadow at lower magnifications; but generally not a problem.

Seeing the front sight was a concern I had also. A couple friends (and THR members) said it wouldnt be seen...they were right. Cant see a thing!

Bartholomew is right, as usual...

At anything greater than 3.5-4X's power, the front sight just does not show more than a shadow. At lower magnification than that, it is much more pronounced. Had the guy at Academy absolutely sure it was a majic trick or something because the front sight post on mine didn't show up with th scope mounted directly to the flat top:D ...

Still 2 Many Choices!?

With a magnified scope on my AR you can't see the front sight at all, you can see it on the red dot sight.
