My take on the modern patrol rifle (post yours)

Some posts went away. The thread is about posting pics of your rifle, not about bickering about what a "patrol rifle" should be or what shot should or shouldn't be taken etc, etc.

If you want to participate and post a pic of your "patrol" rifle, whatever it may be, great. If you want to argue or second guess others, please go elsewhere.

2. Co-witnessed red dot optics and iron sights.
I seem to rather unique in this, but I detest co-witnessed sights. :fire:

I think they are distracting and slow my target aquisition when using optics. IMO folding front and rear sights are a far, far better if you are going to use a red-dot or low magnification scope.

Deleted cause I guess we can only post pictures.

For the record I had a well thought out post about patrol rifles though it may have been misconstrued as "bickering".

This one (and an earlier one with a wood stock) rode with me on patrol. I never felt undergunned, and often it took the place of the shotgun. This one is a .30-06, and delivers the first shot faster than any semi auto I have ever shot. Given the needs of a police officer (especially when my job included backing up the state patrol, country sheriff's, and wildlife officer), I felt very well armed.

I'm not one for adding enough aftermarket items to a stock rifle so that it ends up looking like a badly decorated Christmas Tree. My military time is way behind me, I'm not in law enforcmet on a SWAT nor am I involved in any activity that requires any more than decent iron sights, a nice piece of glass or red dot sighting system. I love shooting my Arsenal SA M7S with the Kobra red dot but the rifle does not need anything additional.

Colt LE6920 M4, MagPul stuff -- CTR stock; MOE handguards, trigger guard, pistol grip and VFG;Surefire MiniScout in MagPul Scout Mount, BCM Gunfighter charging handle, MagPul MS3 sling, MBUI rear sight, EOTECH 512 HWS

I have added a Surefire weapon light since that picture.

this would work too, given my area. I am so exited to chop that barrel down.

I have not patrolled anything and it is highly unlikely in the future I ever will. However, I do have something that might fit the description that was recently acquired.

ArmaLite M15 15A4CBA2 with a Troy rear fixed sight and an EOTech 517. All I want is a better sling and a different pistol grip than it came with and it will be done.

Bad photo for all. :D

I was assuming it was a 1x/4x Elcan

That makes sense. Thanks. I've heard about them, but can't say I've ever seen a picture.

"Huh, I never made the connection."

Yep its the elcan specter dr 1x/4x. I got a very good deal on it, that's why its on a non superaweaometaticool AR brand AR. Rifle gets the job done, and the optic imo is the best do everything optic that exists.
