My wife likes the Glock 26 but.....

sig 938 might be a good option if you can find one. or go with the p-238 if you want to go the .380 route.

She won't like the LCP once she shoots one. Believe me, I have 2 of them. My suggestion would be the Kahr CW9. Good little gun, big enough to shoot, small enough to conceal. I'm thinking seriously about the Shield for myself too. Feels good in the hand and reviews are good for such a new gun. The other compact versions of the regular pistols just don't do much for me. My daughter in law and my other son's girlfriend have small hands and they both prefer my G19 or my Commander 1911 to anything else. They both actually prefer the G19 over the 1911 due to reduced recoil. The G26 is just too small in the grip for any of us.
Check out the Walther PPS before you buy. Pricey but a good pistol.

I didn't think I liked my 27 until I put a few boxes through it.

Then I realized that what I thought was a poor fit was actually just the layout of the gun. That fat hump on the backstrap really forces your hand to go to the right place, and keeps the gun locked right into your palm. They shoot way better than they should, mine shocked me every time I took it out.

A 26 would have been a better choice though. 9mm is just fine, definitely the ideal defensive pistol caliber.

The biggest reason I bought the MP9c over the G26 was because it has a shorter trigger reach.

I have short fingers and the trigger dingle on the G26 made it even worse for me on the initial grab/grip.

Her hands are big enough to FIRE a glock, but not quite long enough to reach the mag release with the thumb of her dominant hand, requiring her to rotate the gun in her grip to drop a mag.

I know very few people personally who can do that with their guns. No clue why people make such a big deal out of that one. 8)

Gen 4 Glock. The grip is a bit slimmer than the Gen 3 models.

S&W M&P or S&W Shield.

Anything made by Kahr.

have her hold a p238/938. my wife loves hers. the best bet would be to have her handle them till she liked one. thas how she got hers. tried alot of them too. each hand is differnt

PPS
Shield
Kahr PM9

I'm a little guy and have small hands. I can make a Glock work, but they don't really fit me at all. The trigger reach on my Gen 4 with no backstrap is still not a good fit.

The PM9 fits me fine, but I'm not thrilled with the trigger and I've had issues making them run in the past.
The PPS fits like a glove, but is a bit larger than the PM9
The Shield (which I haven't shot but have handled) feels good and I believe you will have cheaper and more readily available accessories (mags, sights, & holsters).

Is she / how is she - going to carry?

My wife loves the G23 she stole from me, but we recently went gun browsing and two pistols she really liked te feel of were the MP Shield and some little single stack Sig (forgot the model).

The Sig is not an option because of the price tag, but we are currently saving fun money for a Shield. She just liked the thinner grip and shorter trigger reach. I like the Shield too because it will once again allow me to have a G23 again. :)

I have or had several of the guns mentioned. I like the LC9 for one reason, It can be pocket carried. The others can be forced into that role but not without compromise. I had an lcp, but after 2 years I woke up and decided my old philosophy of "why carry a 380, if you can fit a 9mm" in the same place. I tried the shield, nano, sig, and my 26. They are all too big bulky or thick. the LC9 may not be the finest weapon out there but it does fire every time and it is accurate at 25 feet. With the laser that came on mine it fits in any of my pants front pocket with a "sticky" holster. These holsters are the best thing since sliced bread, inexpensive enough to get one for every carry gun, and the stay where you put them, "thus the sticky" I can move holster and gun to mid waist when driving, and there it stays until I re-pocket it.
I almost got the shield, it's a nicer gun, but 3 of us in the store all agreed it's too darn big to pocket carry, and if I wanted another iwb, I would get another type of steel gun. Or just use my Glock 26 or 30. Most of us have a half dozen of these small 9mm to 45 caliber mini guns as it is. The LC9 will pocket carry best, and will fire every time I have pulled the sloppy trigger,so it works for that.
Also I just sent for a pair of these "CCW Breakaway" pants in the cargo style. They have 2 holsters built into the pockets, that are adjustable vertically and laterally. They will fit a fullsize 1911, to a 380 lcp. Nice folks he was an engineer. I have read good things about them, they make a cargo, a dress kackie, and jeans in blue denim. Also they make all the same in shorts. So for about $100.00 plus the little nylon extra piece I ordered to go between the holster and inside pant leg, you have a nice pair of pants with 2 holsters, one for your gun and one for your mags. The extra cargo pocket can take your wallet keys glasses etc, So google them and I'll let you know when I get mine.

Is she / how is she going to carry?

Right now she just wants an in the purse take to work and back gun. She is the pharmacist in a small town, and wants to have something on her just in case someone comes around looking to feed a drug addiction.

I didn't read that bit. I agree with Nushif, I have medium male hands, pretty much totally ordinary proportions, maybe a hair longer fingers than average, and I can't drop the mag on nearly any pistol without adjusting my grip. If changing grip to reload is a deal breaker, then the only pistols I can think of that she would approve of are the HK/Walther style paddle releases that are best depressed with the trigger finger. I love those.

It's not like she'll be keeping the pistol on target through the whole mag change anyway, really she should be dropping behind the counter, focusing on making that reload happen fast, and then if need be return to firing at whoever. Out here it would be someone after opiate painkillers. Most of our addicts just go roofing, landscaping, or digging though. Actually that's how most of them get hooked in the first place, backbreaking cash-business manual labor.
