My Wife wants a 9mm Gold Cup!

I really like full size, single stack 1911s in 9mm.

Very controllable, accurate, not finnicky.....

So many upsides and the prices (current nonsense noted) are exceptionally reasonable.

Gold Cup flavored? Why not?

Remember as you read all the later comments about this or that 9 being *as good* or better - she already singled out the Colt GC 9. With the exception of the odd Friday-built gun, she'll like it and the stainless guns can be prettied -up very nicely.

Todd.

Hmm, you need us to tell you what to do? How long have you been married? :D

I would have already bought it. That's if I could find one considering the state of the firearms market right now. Of course I have been happily wed for longer than a bunch of you have been alive and I have learned a little bit about wives. Not much, just a little.

Edited to add: One of the few things I have learned is when your wife says "I want" or "I would like to have" it's time to start looking because eventually you are going to wind up buying it for her. Sometimes, umm, most of the time. that's the only way to shut her up and get some peace and quite----for awhile.

Not a thing wrong with a 9mm gold cup. 9mm CAN be a little unreliable in 1911s, they like bullets loaded a bit long.

Might be interesting finding a Colt right now with their bankruptcy and being bought by CZ but maybe that won't be a problem, CZ is a solid outfit as a new owner so that's settled and set.

Springfield, S&W, Dan Wesson all make very good 1911s for around Gold Cup prices as well. Ruger makes a nice, cheaper, option as well.

My Wife told me she's tired of me getting her CC guns and wants a "big" gun. She want a 9mm Gold Cup! I'd like to know more about them. Thoughts?
If you have to ask, you don’t deserve her. Get her one before she changes her mind. You’re buying yourself a get out of jail free card!

Just do as she says and no one will get hurt! On the bright side she'll be happy and thus you'll be happy.

And maybe, just maybe, she might let you shoot it every once in awhile.

One of my absolute favorite guns. This thing is just smooth smooth smooth and an amazing shooter. Slide is nice and easy to rack. Recoil mild.

She will be very happy with it.
I've been wondering about the blue and silver now with your pic's? No doubt. Please tell me a bit more about yours. Is it in a current production? Any idea who might have one? Would you like me to field test it for a few years? Thanks, Oh is this a 9mm?

Married for 27 years! It took three wife's to do it! Geeze she's gonna kill if she sees this post! I've been after a Kimber Black Ice. To make up for not finding me one she went out and got me an accurized Shadow 2, and an FN Tactical 45. Out fitted the .45 with a really nice Olight. While she was out she saw a Gold Cup and told me the [same] story of her Dad's and the contests he had won with it. After a while you recycle a lot of stories. Anyway, I have been getting her a bunch of CC style stuff and she says she misses the heft of a full size gun. Birthday is coming. Wish me luck!

I think all of us married guys want to know what you’re sprinkling in her morning cup of tea. Man, I would jump for joy if my wife came to me and asked for such a great pistol!

Let us know how she shoots it when it’s finally there :).

Stay safe.

I have a GI 1911 in 9mm, one of the best guns to shoot for anyone. Enough recoil, but not too much. Reliable, accurate, flat shooting, cheap to shoot, no hole worn in your hand after 300 rounds. Not a Gold Cup, but I would take one.

Well the last Colt manufactured guns appear to be these Gold Cup Lite .38 Supers . They can be had for about $1200 right now which is a good deal considered, there are a lot of them on Gunbroker. The 9mm Trophy is rare and commands $2000 . I think the .38 super is better in a 1911 format and they are hotter than a 9mm, less finiky in a newer Colt (after they got the headspace thing figured out in the 1970s they became much more accurate . ) Tell her its a 9mm , or get a 9mm barrel installed for about $300 fitted and still com out ahead what a Trophy costs. Forget the other brands, these US Colts are gonna go way up in price in the not too distant future. , you will thank me for steering you to the prancing pony

9mm in a 1911 is sweet.
My Springfield Loaded (called loaded target now) is my favorite range gun.
I have had good luck with Brownells 10rnd 9mm mags.

Colt makes a couple of different versions of the Gold Cup. The National Match is the classic in my opinion and has been available in 9x19 within the last couple of years. I'm not sure if thy are still in the catalog. They could be found in the used market, maybe. National Matches are blued.

They also make a number of Gold Cup version in stainless. Generally, they are called "Gold Cup Trophy", but there are also some Competition models. I have seen them in 45 ACP and 38 Supers. I do not remember if they are/were available in 9x19 but if I had to guess, they probably were. (I have a 9x19 National Match and have not needed to look farther in the 9x19 chambering) Sights and grips are some of the visual differences between different models.

As said, a barrel swap is always a possibility with a 38 Super model. Besides the barrel, the recoil spring may need changing and the extractor may need tuning. 9x19 magazines will be needed as well as there is a spacer in them to account for the shorter cartridge length.
