my wife wants a p238

I wish my spouse wanted to come shooting with me more; you guys are all lucky. At least I have the Boy for a couple more years...

I won't use the word "let" (because it gets my feminist knickers in a twist), but yes, choosing her own firearm will give her more pleasure in ownership. And she will have no-one but herself to blame if she hates it.

Thanks for all of the reccomendations fellas.
I'm just dissappointed that she wants to move down in caliber. She loves her g26 and her charter arm .38special. She just wants to cut down on the width for when she is carrying at work. She is fine with the felt recoil on the 26 and shes darn accurate with it, she shot a 250 with it on her test. We found a load load thats perfect for her in the 115 gr hornady critical defense round. I don't like the load but she can put them where they need to be.
I'm trying hard to to keep her in the 9mm so I took her today to check out the SA emp:evil:
I got her thinking now:D

Gents,
Just a point that I don't see addressed in the thread. The OPERATION of the P238--slide spring. My wife has an arthritis problem in her hands and CAN NOT chamber a load in most Semiauto. The P238 is the easiest and lightest to operate which she can do. Coupled up with pearl grips and laser sight and SHE loves the gun and shoots it well ! Is it what I carry?--NO, but we are talking about HER not ME. (I carry XDm .40). It's not just a "GUN" question but a viewpoint. Yes, I have a P238 also for the better "concealed" times.
Good luck with gun & wife problem........................

;)The P238 is a fine gun. Yes ammunition will cost more, but how much is she worth to you! It will save her when she needs it! But the one that is sitting at home won't! And those P238s are just so nice .... Also if she don't like it, it's not you're fault & I don't believe You will have a hard time selling or trading it! Good luck, have fun, stay safe.

Should I just keep my moth shut and let her get it against my better judgemeant, or try to get her to look at it from my point of view?

I think you already know the answer.

You need to let her get what she wants. She won't practice with what YOU want her to get. She won't carry what YOU want her to get. She won't like what YOU want her to get.

In the end, she's better off with the weapon she wanted, practices with, and likes to carry as opposed to the one you swayed her to that's sitting at home.

I've been married 20 years and I have to tell you, making suggestions will never hurt. However, if she's really set on the little P238, she should get the little P238. Remember, it's what works best for her that's important. :)

Have a look on Diamondback DB9. It is thinner than Sig. I love mine. It cost me $345+tax/

Aside of a guns.
If your wife ASKS for a gun, then run and buy it :)

Well guys just to update you all.
I found a lot of shot show news all over youtube concerning the p938. I showed her all I found and she's sold on it. Its essentially the same gun as she wants it just shoots the 9mm. So I'm happy. She got the gun she wanted and it shoots a round that I feel more comfortable with her carrying.
Went to the gun shop and I'm first on the list for when they arrive. All in all it ended up well for both of us.

I looked at the image of the 938 .... thought about it shooting the 9mm ... preferably in a self defense load ... because a normal 9mm just kinda bounces off bad guys, right? ... and suddenly there was this bruise between my thumb and index finger. Dunno where it came from.

Had I been you, my wife would now have a 238.

Same here. Sorry but that 938 just looks like a sore hand waiting to happen to me. OP, you are truly letting your own personal wants and wishes get in the way of reality. You say you worry about your wife having the meager .380 for self defense, but the fact is, a .380, well placed, will give the exact same results as a well placed 9mm. Dead or disabled bad guy. Plain and simple. The problem you are now going to have is your wife, once experiencing the "bite" of that 938, will NOT want to practice anywhere near as much as she should. She will then have the problem of bad placement. Sorry but I don't care if you are carrying a .380 or a .500 S&W, bad shot placement is equal to a dead wife in an attack situation.

Ouch!
I see your point, she does hate my pf9.
I'm at work now and will discuss it with her further tomorrow. If she insist on it, I'll go buy one before I go back in on Saturday night. I can't let my personal opinion affect her ability, to want to shoot and practice.
I see I've made this harder than it needed to be.

P238's are great I have a HDW and I love it. Shoots as smooth as anything I've got. Would I buy another one -- you bet I would. It sets pretty happy on my hip most of the time I'm out.

I just bought a sig P238 today 1/31/2012

I love this gun!
I have a Kimber Custom Raptor, full size 1911 with adjustable sights. While it was a lot of fun. This pistol is very accurate; my patterns with the 238 are better than they were with the Kimber to start with. I actually had to adjust the sights on the Kimber as it was shooting way low. Grumble, Grumble. This little 238 gun is spot on. The one thing I will say that I see is negitive is that the trigger pull weight is terrible, by that I mean stiff. I just put 2 boxes through it and it's getting a little better or I'm getting use to it. I would say you should get it for her and then lighten the trigger a bit. Oh one more thing, I was very pleased in the finish and quality of this pistol, I chose my Kimber for the tight fitting parts and great finish. This Sig is great, the slide has a very good quality feel. While it may seem like it's expensive go see one, OH and the extention clip that sig has for the gun is well worth it; it completely changes the feel of the grips of the gun. I actually bought two, and they are expensive, but I really thought they were worth it.

I have a p238 and just love the gun and carry it most of the time. .380 is just fine for SD in my book and think she will enjoy shooting it much more than a lightweight 9mm.

You have a wife who wants you to buy her a handgun?!?!?!

Just shut the h*** up and quit making the rest of us jealous. Go out and buy her whatever handgun she wants.

Now!

;)

winn the pennent

i do, she has a colt 1911, colt mustang, sig p238, pink ar15 (22 lr), m1895 nagant and a hp22. im planning on getting her a pink remington 870 to go clay shooting with.

I'm in the "buy her what she wants" crowd. The 380 is adequate and far better than the gun she leaves at home because of the recoil, reliability, looks or whatever issue she might have with the first production run of a model you talked her into.

So my wife has decided she wants a sig p238. She likes the 1911ish look to it and the size of it. Its real slim, which is something she's after in her next gun. She currently carries a g26 and is getting tired of the width iwb.
I have a problem with the idea to be honest. The gun to me is over priced for what it is and the price of ammo to feed it is out of this world. I also worry about the performance of the round(not starting a caliber war guys)
From what I read a heavier 9mm is going to get better penetration and exspancion than a .380.
She's hooked on the size and look of it. IMHO however, she can get somthing almost as small in 9mm like the:(kahr cm9,pm9,Ruger lc9 or the nanno) We have no experience with any of the above mentioned fire arms. I do have a
pf9 but she hates it. Do any of the above 9mm's recoil less?
I just don't like the idea at all, when she can get a single stack 9 for less as well as practice a whole lot cheaper. I'm just anti 380 these days, with the size of the pocket 9's and cost of ammo.
What say you guys? Should I just keep my moth shut and let her get it against my better judgemeant, or try to get her to look at it from my point of view?
I would have her look at a(9mm) kahr PM9.I have both a sig p238 & kahr PM9,both are light weight carry guns.

If you shoot the P238, you'll fall in love with it. Fantastic little pistol. Not so great for pocket carry, but IWB should be fine. Check GunBroker for good deals. I've seen many all black P238s for $425-$475.
