"My wife won't carry a gun, what about OC"

Now there is a interesting concept. Taser pulling on another civilian gets me dead by gun.

Disparity of force perhaps?

Why not just dump the non-legal crap into the gutter if we are "For keeps?" all packing weapons with real bullets.

I dont want this thread to spin too much but thinking about this from a previous poster in response to my post regarding LEO... that introduces a new element.

If I play devil's advocate and am concealed carry with a .45 and some joecitizen pulls a taser on me? I will also be forced to treat it as a weapon and must draw before he deploys, particularly if I am not a aggressor.

Grey area. SOmething for me to think over today.

Hear me out here, Im not certified or taking my concealed class yet so I have much to learn. But Tasers are meant to allow nice ladies to defend themselves against the perpturd without the moral weight of a actual murder/death/kill (There was a movie that had that saying... now what was the title...)

But introducting a twist such as this...

I am concerned because Citizens are arming themselves and some are going to think that they too can go ahead and draw on a LEO.... bad mistake.

I remember when the first generation of Pepper spray came out.. the cadet classes at DPS Austin were spraying it on their steamed veggies for flavor in the cafe....

I've assisted training several OC classes, there is always 1 or 2 in the class that the spray has no affect on..

of course one night in the jail an office hit a guy with a stun gun 3 times and no results.. 5 of us were trying to get this guy into the rubber room. The officer backed away, hit the trigger a couple of times to make sure it was actually firing. The BG heard the crackle, stood up and shouted "Don't hit me with that thing!!! I"m going into the cell"...

done hit the nut several times and no apparent affect..

ASP works well, but that pesky Texas state law about carrying a club comes into play...

Are the state laws governing the use of OC, Tasers, etc., as varied (i.e., inconsistent) as they are in the use of guns in self-defense scenarios? (e.g., duty to retreat, stand your ground, etc.)

And do any states define clearly the threshold of threat necessary before the brandishing and deployment of the non-lethal tools become OK? Or is it all up to the police and prosecutor to decide whether you "defended" yourself with the tool or "attacked" someone?

The question regarding the law is a good one.

What would be the legal ramifications of shooting a bad guy brandishing a taser? I do not know why it would be different for a citizen than a law enforcement officer.

I have always been on the school of thought that says there is no such thing as an "unfair advantage"...it is merely an "advantage"

Some High Road member has the signature "if you find yourself in a fair fight, your tactics suck".

If I am confronted with such a scenario I hope that someone says "the boy shouldn't have brought a taser to a gun fight"

Does anyone have any experience with the Kimber pepperblaster ? I have been carrying one in a nylon cellphone holster for a year and no one ever noticed. I also carry a bodyguard LE10 cone pattern in my vest pocket, which i trust more than the kimber.

Guillermo Ok. I will go ahead and accept your debate. Anyone with a taser is fair game as well as real weapons. I did think about this recalling my previous thinking that paint ball guns sometimes look like real guns...

I think I leave taser to wife inside the house or her purse and stay with the Pistol or shottie. If the lawyer argues with me in court that a taser was availible when BG breaks in, then we have go around yes?

A guide for citizen use of force should look something like this-
Verbal commands
Impact tools (flashlights, pens, kubatons, stylus)
OC
Firearms/Edged Weapons

I'll be honest, getting my wife to carry OC is not because it solves the problem, it's a compromise because she won't do anything else to protect herself. Flashlights? Pens? Right.

BTW is there anyone else here that thinks "kubatons" are a sales/training gimmick? Well I do.

I like kubatons. The main thing to me is not the effectiveness, but the mindset. The first step in defending yourself if the will and desire to do so.

Predators look for the weak and any fighting back is good.

The little batons are a good police tool. But just a tool for compliance, not for life and death IMHO.

What value does life have to you, your spouse, your family or your friends when THEY individually are personally threatened with the immediate prospect of a complete and utter tear-apart of thier nice little life with the real possibility of having it ternimated?

What is that going to do to the person?

Are we so sheltered as to submissively allow the BG to end life as known?

That is why there are Predators and Prey, we are not to be prey.

Nope.. carried them while working the jail for over 10 years.. work like a champ since we couldn't carry any other type of weapon.

nothing like it when using PPCT with verbal commands..
