IIRC, Elmer Keith had excellent luck nailing sharks with a .44 Magnum even through water. I suspect the lower velocity of the big slugs helped keep them intact after impact with the surface.
OTOH, these findings throw additional doubt onto the ending of Jaws, where the .30'06 at about 30 yards stayed intact and blew up Bruce. And indeed the Myth Busters are going to test THAT film sequence on Sunday.
