i searched and didn't see it posted.

Turns out mythbusters was testing a canon at a range in Dublin Ca and they were shooting trashcans full of water and the canon ball overshot them, blowing through a concrete barrier and into a home development.

it went through one home, bounced and over a 4 lane highway, through another home and inside a mini van.

ALWAYS be very sure about your backstop :what:

Can't wait for the episode. I fear that either it won't aire or they will edit so that everything appears normal.

May not be an episode when the lawsuit dust settles!

I bet there are lawyers hiring tour buses to get all of them to the scene in large enough droves, or clusters?

(Or whatever you call a bunch of drooling rabid lawyers?)

And then there is the insurance company that covers the shows liability?
That won't be pretty either I betcha!

Watch for the prmos!

This incident will be the lead off show for the 2012 season, great ratings are assured.

P.s I Oakland, Ca where this happened gun fire is so common the homeowners did not ever bother to wake up.

Kind of ironic that the police officer interviewed was Sgt. J. D. Nelson with the Alameda County Sheriff's EOD Team ... who himself has been on several Mythbusters episodes (like the "exploding pants" myth.

Wonder if he was at the scene when also fired off the canon, especially since it sounds like he knew a whole lot about what myth they were trying to bust this time?

Thank goodness nobody was injured.

<putting on my spelling nazi pants>

Ahem, "canon" is a brand of camera, and has other uses/meanings in literature.

A "cannon" goes boom and shoots balls through houses. Two "n's".

Carry on.

Nah, it happened in Dublin, CA, not really close to Oakland at all. Dublin is a very quiet and wealthy suburb sandwiched between some other very expensive cities.

I'm more concerned that the County Bomb Disposal Range didn't have better-designed protective berms.

My wife came home and showed me pictures of the damage on her lap top so evidently it is on the internet somewhere. I would call but she is teaching a class right now. These were NOT the same pictures from the video.

Several years ago an Army test range in NJ put a round thru a house at a very long distance. It was some kind of guided artillery shell that went astray or someone put in a double charge. As I recall it killed their cat, but no one was injured.

I'd love to see this episode but I'm pretty sure it won't make the air! Although it may add a little more creedence to their "we are professionals, don't try this at home" intro.

"The moral of this week's episode - a 32 pound cast iron projectile shot from an 18th century artillery piece which traverses through a concrete barricade, deflects off of a hill side, travels 700 yards, defeats a standard front door and 8 interior walls WILL one-shot stop a Toyota minivan."

And here we thought our little 1911's had stopping power!

Hail to the king baby.

We are big MythBuster fans at my house. I hope the people who had property damage settle for repairs and don't try to milk it for anything more.

I wonder if this will have fallout such as reduced law enforcement support for future weapons tests, which could result in a lot fewer gun tests.

In California where most of the episodes are shot normal people cannot have some of the things they have tested in the past.

Such as whether tracers would ignite a gas tank (no rifle tracers in California), various tests with a minigun (no full auto generally in California), and various other things. There is a number of their tests with things that go boom that require the special classes of people authorized in the state.

If law enforcement distances themselves from the show you may see a lot fewer tests on things ordinary people in California cannot have.

Oh, I don't think that this'll be the end of MythBusters as we know it.

It gets high ratings and is worth the money the insurance company will spend in compensation to those suffering damages and MythBusters will continue albeit with a more careful eye on just where they are sending cannonballs.

this happened few miles from me and a few blocks from my cousin's house in Dublin. YES They have a county sheriff bomb disposal site within Camp Parks ( army reserve base) where Mythbusters films a lot and yes it borders up against a residential area and in the last few years more and more building has taken place and the house that got hit was literally across the street from there. of course in WWII when it was built it was all ranch land out there and the city population was a few thousand people.

that cannon ball must have had some serious velocity behind it

im sure they have lots of insurance

Owen Sparks:

Maybe both home owners-if gun enthusiasts-can each settle for two Service Garade Garands and 10,000 rds. of reloadable ammo.
That would be quite a bargain for the show's producers, along with a jump in their ratings, which might help pay for some settlements.

A Fedex pilot was bitten in the leg by a cottonmouth while on a portable plant nursery platform in the 90's.
He told the nursery's owner (or attorney) that he expected a brand-new Mercedes to be within view at the hospital curb on the third day. After growing impatient, the car was seen on the third day when he checked out.
