I purchased a new Guardian 380 w/ the CT grips and took it out for the first time yesterday. Put 160 rds. through it. Winchester 90gr. FMJ, Independence 90 gr. FMJ, and a few Hornady HP's......wanted to start with the standard load and FMJ for ease of loading. The gun fired fine and the CT grips are nice especially at night. I did however have some loading issues where the 4th round would not chamber properly causing the magazine to release in my hand. This happened a few times. I could see how once the round shifted positions in the loading port it could cause this to happen by the pressure placed on the magazine. Anyone else have this experience here ?

Question: What is the normal breakin period for these small autos, this being my first of this size ? How many rounds usually need to be put through it to get things in working order here ?

This model came highly reccomended to me by another NRA Cert Inst. and is one reason I purchased it. Also, I was considdering the Ruger LCP, but I noticed the weight of the gun loaded was half the Guardian. I was amazed at the little kick this gun has and thought the lighter Ruger would want to fly out of your hand at 12ozs. loaded.

..I did however have some loading issues where the 4th round would not chamber properly causing the magazine to release in my hand...

I think it could be the other way around.

If you accidently hit the mag release with your grip it will cause a feeding malfunction because the mag will not be in it's proper locked position.

I don't think there is anything the fourth round can do to cause the mag to drop.

I've got over 500 rounds through my 380 guardian and never had a mag problem as you described. Was it only one mag you had problems with or both? Also, call NAA and see what they have to say. If it was only one mag, it might be a defective mag.

Thanks for your advice. It did happen with both magazines that the gun comes with and happened to both myself and my son. FTF with the mag dropping down in the mag well.

Got an e-mail from NAA....they said send it back to them and they will see what's what.....I did that today....We'll see what they say.

If you get the opportunity, pick up some snap caps for it and use the snap caps to smooth out the trigger. The trigger does lighten up at about 500 rounds.

Trip X, congratulations on your NAA 380. Imagine shoving 160 rounds through a Kel-Tec 380 in one range visit. That extra weight that some complain about comes in handy at the range. And unless you are planning on climbing Mt. Everest it shouldn't be a problem. I've had my Guardian 380 almost 2 years. I have had no problems other than a broken retaining washer. NAA is known for very good customer service. They have wood grips as their monthly special on their website for the month of June. I bought a set for mine quite a while ago when they were on sale. That and the finger extension on all 4 of my mags works very well for me. It carries nicely in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster. I carry 102gr Remington Golden Sabers in mine.

Wow!

I'm more impressed with your having 160rds of 380 ammo to burn up than I am the pistol....:D

I don't know where you live, but here in SE GA 32 or 380cal. ammo is almost impossible to find right now.

In years past I owned a couple of 32cal. NAA Guardians and they were very good firearms, and NAA was quick to resolve any problems.. IMO great customer service.

Best Wishes,

Jesse

AS soon as I hear anything reguarding FTF, I will report back and yes there has been some .380 Ammo here in NJ at $22.50 a box of Independance Brand 50 Rds. Also, some H.P. Ammo......Hornandy and Federal at $24.50 a box of 20 Rds. Not Cheap By Any Standard.

Has anyone tried the Glaser Power Ball ammo in .380 ?
