I'm trying to find a full flap holster for my Single Ten 5.5", but having a frustrating time. I tried one holster, which was supposedly made to fit this pistol, but the flap had an enormous amount of "dead space" between the gun and the flap. It just felt way too bulky. You can see what I mean here:

It seemed to me that maybe the snap was just poorly placed. It felt like it should have been more like this:

I ended up requesting a return the holster, and the maker was kind enough to give me a refund. I'm a little gun-shy to try to order a different flap holster from another maker without knowing if I will run into the same problem.

Does anyone have any suggestion from experience for a good full flap holster that is properly form-fitting to the gun?

I am a big fan of Simply Rugged, and I notice that Rob recently made a flapped version of the Cattleman called the Outdoorsman (link). Seems like it could be a promising option.

Thoughts?

Bianchi made these for Ruger in the past. Not sure when though. I got mine off eBay a couple of years back. They seem to be desirable and youll pay accordingly if you can find one, but they are nice holsters.

They're pricey, but El Paso Saddlery made a full flap holster for my 4" S&W 58. It fits very well and the workmanship is top notch.

I’d love to see pictures of that if you have time. Is it their “2000 Full Flap Holster?” I’m interested in how the belt loop looks, and also what kind of material they line it with.

Thanks!

Dont know what they call it. Im pretty sure they are no longer in production. Its unlined.

They do usually have them on eBay, but condition and barrel lengths vary, not to mention prices. They seem popular too. I lost a couple of auctions before I finally won that one.

I love EPS and they have made some great stuff for me over the years!

I can't wait to see the pics once it arrives.

I remember getting my first pistol and wanting a holster for it. I'm in El Paso, so I walk in, see the prices and walk out.

Then a few months later I started making my own stuff.

Their prices have always been a tad salty, but have really jumped quite a bit in the past couple of years.

It occurred to me that I owed this thread a followup with some pictures. Holster arrived from El Paso Saddlery after a few months waiting. When I first got it, the fit was too tight and I could not get the revolver into the holster far enough to close the flap. A quick email to Ken at El Paso, and he gave me a return label to send it back. They re-stretched it, and within a week or two, I had it back. With a little bit of break-in, it fits very well. Here are some pictures.

You'll notice the leather is a bit scratched up down by the flap clasp. Some of this is just from my fingernail scratching the leather as I open it, but some of it seems to be some kind of faint glue residue that was there when I got it. It's a minor blemish that doesn't really bug me. Similarly, the scratch on the front of the flap was there when I received it. Again, doesn't bug me. There is a slight trail of what appears to be moisture dots or uneven dye spots on the flap, which are faint but can be seen in lighting. It's enough to make my raise an eyebrow given the premium I paid for it, but all in all I'm not too concerned. This holster is meant to be used, and I never expected it to remain a work of art. Nevertheless, do note that in the pictures below, this holster has never been worn outdoors, so many of the little blemishes you see are really just how it came.

The interior lining is superb. I believe I read that it is pig skin. It has a little block of leather in there which acts as a sight protector (not pictured).

All in all, I am very pleased. I especially appreciate how well the flap is formed to the gun. I think I'd be hard-pressed to find a better "commercially available" flap holster out there.

Light scuffs..
Brown shoe polish will VANISH them…
I love flap holsters. 25yrs working as a game warden after 3yrs as city PD, and 3mos as Forrest Ranger (not in that order), and hunting from an aluminum boat along river bottoms makes me appreciate them. I have a U.S. GI copy of M1911 flap holster I use with a variety of handguns including a M1911 in 10mm.
Also, the M3,4 Tanker holster.
