All I could do was laugh when I read this, once again we are given backroom politiks in California. The time is coming to VOTE FROM THE ROOFTOPS!

From and FCI e-mail:

California Senate Committee passes 50 ban

The California Senate Committee on Public Safety today passed AB-50, the ban on fifty caliber rifles introduced by Assemblyman Koretz (D-Hollywood). The Committee took no testimony, and voted on a bill with last minute amendments. The Committee gave no one a chance to comment on this new version, ensuring a back room deal to pass the bill.

It will now go before the full California Senate. This bill represents a major threat to law abiding gun owners in California and elsewhere. The Fifty Caliber Institute (FCI) had contacted the committee recently to provide detailed opposition - at the last minute, the bill was amended and passed. We will continue to take up the fight in the full Senate, and provide more details as they become available.

You can support FCI's efforts by making a contribution and getting your chance to win a custom 50 Caliber Target rifle. Visit http://www.fiftycal.org/fci1.html to see the rifle and contribute online.

Yours in Freedom,

Michael Marks
President

Doe not the Politboro always vote without the proles input? Do you think our esteemed comrades who selflessly give thier own service to the State would have any wish to be distracted by the mindless bleating sheep who support thier statist agendas.......?
There is GOOD reason I live in Free Arizona, not California....

Sigh. Yes, I know *all* about this mess.

Grrr.

We got the shaft on this one.

Attached find the CCRKBA official statement of opposition, written by myself with a lot of guidance from my more experienced compadres at HQ (Joe Waldron in particular). (The formatting is funky due to our letterhead needs on page one.)

The swing vote was Vasconcellos. We had indications he was going to go our way, he's really hard to predict on gun issues...but he flopped from last year and went against us.

We don't have the full scoop on the amendments yet, more on that tomorrow. There's something about a "2 year" registration period.

One funky thing: since the bill is strongly linked to caliber, swapping barrels to 338Lapua and getting the necking dies to take your 50BMG shells down to .338 bore lets you just ignore this moronic piece of "legislation".

Ok...I'm trying to decipher this crap. It looks like they are trying to ban ammo, as well.

The reason it passed yesterday was that they supposedly removed all the references to ammo at the last moment. This is yet to be seen, we'll have to wait for the amended copy.

The fight goes on, all we can do is hope they remember how Koretz lied to them last year. If it gets to Arnie were done!
