Need a place to shoot

I got my AK-47 a couple of weeks ago and I've been itching to fire a few hundred out of her. Thing is, I can't find a range to shoot at.

I'm in the south suburbs of Chicago, about 30 miles south of Chicago approximately where I-80 and I-57 intersect. I went to Deb's Gun range in Hammond, IN, but they only allowed .22 rifles. I need a range where I can shoot my 7.62x39 rifle.

I looked at Bristol but they're pretty strict.

Anyone have any suggestions?

I'm in Libertyville and shoot at Bristol. Yes they're strict and that sucks.

I'd suggest the range at Sycamore Sportsmans Club.

It's a very nice outdoor range. It has pistol 50ft,25yd, rifle 50yd, 100yd, plus trap and skeet range. Non-member $10, member $2, annual fee $80. There is no one round in the gun rule like most clubs around this god-foresaken area.

Also, I'm thinking about getting a THR event scheduled somewhere in the Northern Illinois area this fall...maybe to celebrate AWB death. Let me know if you're interested.

Thanks for that link; I looked them up and they're not too far away. I see that they have quite limited access as far as range times. Are they usually pretty busy?

I have this question for you: I usually bring a friend to shoot with me and she's only 20. Most places will let me bring her since I have a FOID but I'm responsible for her. Will this place let me bring a guest?

They might be too far from you, but here is a small outdoor range that allows just about anyting. I haven't been there yet, but I have talked to the owner several times. Seems like a good place to go.

If I am still in IL in the fall, (I think it's here already) I'd be interested in a get together. I'm in Springfield, so it wouldn't be too hard for me to get to a get together up north.
