Dear THR
I am planning on buying a 1911 Nighthawk. However, I am not sure, which model to buy. I need advice from the 1911 experts here who can tell me about some of the models to consider, and also on Nighthawk in general.

Here is some what a rough criteria of what I looking for:
Accuracy
TB is a big plus
adjustable sights
top notch quality that can qualify the pistol to be collectors item
price does not matter.

Thank you

A few questions:

-Does it have to be a Nighthawk? Nothing against them or anything, but there are lots of options in the "price doesn't matter" category. (And be careful with that, as folks will quickly be telling you how you can spend $5-10K+ on your 1911)

-What is TB?

-What kind of wait time are you willing to accept to get exactly what you want?

Not a 1911 expert by far but I have do have a Nighthawk Talon 5" .45ACP 1911. Excellent gun. Most accurate gun I own, 100% reliable so far, excellent build quaility, no complaints at all. Mine has fixed Trijicon night sights, ambi thumb safety, Perma Kote finish black slide over sniper gray frame. Price was approx $2700 new. Nighthawk builds what referred as "semi-custom" guns and while they're very nice I wouldn't consider them collector items. From reading on the 1911 forum it looks like Nighthawk is giving out quotes of a 2 year wait on new orders! If you can find one at a local shop that carries them that might be the way to go. Thats what I did, total wait time was about 10 minutes to fill out all the required paper work.

I started a reply earlier and got pulled away.. damn work gets in the way of goofing off!

Anyway, my sentiments exactly.

If price is truly no object, and even if it is there are a lot of small custom shops who will build you exactly what you want down to the most minute detail, and probably be competitive in price to what a stock Nighthawk will run.

Check out Benchmark Precision, he has some guns ready to go that I'd put up against just about anything, most in the $2500 +/- a few hundred range. He even does some lighter builds that come in quite a bit less.

Another opinion - no painted gun is ever going to be "a collectible" in my opinion, they may be desireable and otherwise great guns but I still think classic finishes rule the day in this area.

(no, I'm not a paint bigot, I have a painted Ed Brown, formerly owned a painted Nighthawk and a few painted Dan Wessons to prove it ;))

I had a Talon 2 that I loved. Only reason I sold it was I needed some cash at the time. It was accurate, reliable, fit and finish were fantastic.

Larry Vickers is still taking custom pistol orders? I find that very hard to believe.

Well the Nighthawk Masters Edition is what I was eye at but it doesnt come with tb, which is threaded barrel.

I can wait, but the darn thing has to be top of the line show stopper.

For something that you won't be able to get anywhere else, I'd highly recomend you take a look at Nighthawk Custom's authorized Heine Custom 1911. It is now the only way to get a new Heine Custom as he has closed his list forever

Looks like his next pistolsmithing class is 2/13.
I'm not sure if you misunderstood my question or if you've avoided it.

The last I checked, Larry Vickers isn't building custom 1911 pistols any longer...he is continuing his teaching, but he isn't building custom guns for sale.

Is that not what you meant in your post (#6) in this thread?

...or did you mean by "Some top tier and very rare 1911s can be built here", that a student would be able to build a top tier and rare 1911 by attending his class?

I'd agree with rare, top tier...not so much

The link I provided is what it is and pretty straight forward. It would seem you (us) already knew the answer to your question when you posted it.
