One other thing when picking a hunting bow is the different stance (at least for me) when hunting vs indoor or other comp shooting. I don't shoot much now, but when I was, my comp bows had a little longer draw. My stance was similar to the classic rifle stance (looking past my support shoulder). That's great for steady shooting, but not so good for shooting from a tree stand.

well...I went bow fondling today at Bass Pro.

The bow that felt the best to me was the Bear Empire. It was a little too expensive. I will have to look over their models a little more carefully now that I know I like their grip.

The PSE stinger felt okay too. It was my second choice.

The rest were all just ....meh..

I found I didn't like the Parker at all. I don't like where the screw hole is and it dug into my thumb knuckle.

Hey that's awesome you got to go. Bear has come a long way with their bows. Was never really big on Parkers either. But some are. Did you by any chance shoot any of the Diamond bows?

Naw, I didn't shoot any of them. It was more of a lunch break fondle session. I will have to give them some more time when I am ready to make the purchase. I don't think I would want to buy one and try to hunt this season. I have a crossbow and am more confident with it. My plan is to get one over the holidays and be ready for next year. I recognize that you can't just pick up a bow and go hunt. It takes a little more effort than that.

That's very true. And a very wise and ethical decision. I commend you. I don't know if you have one yet or not, but a 3D archery deer target REALLY helps with nerves when the time comes to let a broadhead fly at an actual animal. You don't have to spend $250 on one since you are obviously on a budget. It isn't necessary. You can pick one up for about $80 on Amazon or Academy. It is a very worthy investment. JMO

If there is a Gander Mtn near you they currently have the Diamond Infinite Edge package on sale for $349 and will give you a $25.00 gift card. I just purchased one and used the card to get 6 arrows. Set up and extended warranty package out the door for a smidge under $400.00.

I have not shot a compound for a long long time and the first time I shot this bow I was able to put all six arrows into a 6-8" area. Not great accuracy for an experienced archer but I was very happy with it.

Nice thing about this bow is it will adjust from 5lbs to 70lbs pull and 13"-30" draw length. Super easy to adjust and anyone can shoot it and it will grow with you.

I am sure plenty of other archery shops will have the same deal or price match. For a starter I don't think I could have picked any better.

Well..I am not the OP...but I did pick up my first bow today. I went to H&H and shot some different ones. I ended up getting a bowtech Carbon Knight. I am pretty excited. I only got a 60lb. I hope that will be enough.
