Is there room on the rear of the receiver? I recently got a Frontier in .308 Win and was hoping I would have the option of loading it with 5 round clips.

In looking at it, I am a little let down, because it appears that it won't work.

The OAL of the rounds is too long to have a clip holder attached to the top of the receiver. No big deal, but it seems to me that the extractor would not allow a clip to function properly if a slot were machined into the receiver.

If anyone knows more about this than I do, please help. I have a schematic for slotting a Rem 700 action, which I believe has the right dimensions. It needs to be just under .25" as I recall. I can upload it if smiths/machinists can use it to help.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I still love the way this rifle feels, clips or not. I have only had it about 5 hours now, and hope to shoot it this weekend sometime.

Yes,if you are talking about converting it to use detachable box magazines.

I wish that I could send you pics of the Frontier I converted...Mine uses FAL mags. That is a bit more involved that converting to use M14 mags.

Do a Google search in the images section for Ruger Frontier magazine conversion...Also check youtube as there is a gentalman that started doing this conversion to his Frontier and some videos show it.

Hope this helps.Goodluck and have fun with it.:)

No, I am talking about using clips, not magazines.

A detachable magazine conversion would be great too. However, the only mag conversion for the Ruger M77 I have found so far is the one that takes a fixed M14 magazine. That's nice, but takes a little too long to feed without clips. I am looking for fast, not just capacity.

Will you be able to get pics of your FAL mag conversion sometime in the future? I haven't seen any, but I would think that there are some 10 round FAL mags out there somewhere since there is at least one US maker of the rifles (DSA is who I am thinking of). A 5 or 10 rounder in the gun and a couple 20 rounders for back up would be pretty nice for some situations, I'm sure.
