i have a savage 11fl 300wsm......... i want a good hunting scope around 300-400 dollars .........how about the burris fullfield/leupold vxii/nikon monarch............thanks !!!!!!!

The scopes you mention are some of the best choices in that price range. Go with a 3-9x40, 300 wsm suggests that you'll use it for deerhunting. I can't honestly say that i can see any real difference between any of them, i would with the Nikon Monarch because it looks cooler to me.
I have a Pentax Lightseeker on my deer rifle, and that is just because i got a great deal on that scope which put it right in that price range.

I'd go with the Burris or Leupold simply because both of those companies will fix the scope free forever should a problem arise. This also lets you buy a used scope in confidence, and buying used can either save you money or get you a higher scope for the same money.

At the same time I'd not pass up a new Nikon if you find a good deal on one.

looked at the scopes and i think i will get the burris fullflield ii 4.5x 14x 42 what do u think???

i'm no fan of burris, but must admit you can do a lot worse than burris. also look into sightron - very comparable to burris in every respect, and great warranty. the 2 drawbacks to both sightron and burris is the eye-relief is critical, and the adjustments don't feel positive (however, once the scope is zeroed the adjustment feel won't matter).

my first choice is a leupold 4.5-14, second would be leupold 4-12, tie for third would be burris/sightron 4.5-14 or 3-12.

i prefer the higher power scopes, but i live and hunt the prairie where i can make use of the higher powers.

+1 for leupold. their reputation and transferable lifetime warranty make it a great choice now, and will help immeasurably if/when you try to sell it.

I just bought a Nikon Monarch 3-9 from Natchez on clearance for 200 dollars. The scope is very nice and appears to be well made. I have not use it yet, but it's reputation is very good.

how would i check the eye relief if i dont have the scope? also what kinda of rings or mount should i get

check the eye relief by looking through them, preferably mounted on a rifle already.

rings aren't anything to agonize over. talley lightweights are fantastic rings - the base is integrated into the ring so they are actually like buying the ring and the base. leupold dual dovetails are good, and leupold std's are good as well. weavers are a no-frills way of getting gun and scope meshed, as well.

if it were me, a set of talley lightweights w/ a leupold 4.5-14 and i'm done.

With a budget of up to $400, I'd go with the 3-9x40 Zeiss Conquest. The optical quality is superior to anything within $200 of it's price range, eye relief is an excellent and consistent 4", and you get a leupold-like warranty. If not the Ziess, then the Bushnell Elite 4200 or the Nikon Monarch are good choices, in that order. Leupold is good, but they have been resting on their laurels too long, and frankly there are plenty of scopes nowadays that are much better than the Leupold offerings dollar-for-dollar.

I have several Burris FFII's, Nikon Monarch and one of the cheaper ones, a couple of Leupolds VX1 and 2's, and a Bushnell Elite 3200. The mid range Leupolds are decent, the Nikon Monarchs are also, the Elite 3200 is ok.

My base case scope now is the FFII. Something has to be significantly better than that for me to buy anything else. It's not the ultimate piece of glass, but is excellent glass for the money, and good enough for my eyes.

I second .41 Dave. In the $400 price range the Zeiss Conquest is very hard to beat. I have one of these (and the 6.5-20 Conquest) and it is very bright and clear. There are a couple of online optics retailers that sell this scope in your price range.
