Need help choosing a couple semi-autos

I am a fan of Smith and Wesson M&Ps, but my best friend likes Glocks they are both excellent pistols.

Everyone will have a different but valid opinion. If you are set on buying two guns, then I agree with the previous poster who suggested that you pick a gun that you like, and allow your wife to pick a pistol that she likes.

If they both turn out to be Glocks in the same caliber then that's an added bonus because ya'll can share the magazines.

Good Luck!

My wife has an easier time racking the Smith M&P than the Glock. The M&P changeable back straps makes fitting different size hands easier.

Thanks for all of the responses. I'll try to get my wife to go with me to pick out her own handgun, but if that fails, I'll check out the suggestions in this thread.

If you're not planning on carrying the pistol concealed, then get a Glock 17.

But if you plan to carry concealed, then get a Glock 26.

High-capacity magazines manufactured after September 1994 are illegal, so the high-capacity handgun would have to be one that was in wide use prior to 9/94 so that pre-ban hi-cap mags would be readily available.

The world was a lot different in 1994. So most polymer guns like M&Ps and XDs are out (Glock being an obvious exception). The Sig P226 and P228 models were available. The Sig P229 and HK USP were introduced just before the ban, so that may hurt magazine availability, depending on the requirements of the NY law. Browning Hi-Powers had been available for decades. S&W 3rd generation autos had been out for half a decade and were in very wide use.

Can't help with specific dates

but Para Ordnance makes nice hi-cap 1911s, 12, 13 and 14 rounds.
In 9mm there are lots of high cap pistols.
Kel-Tec makes a .223 pistol which accepts AR magazines, so you could find lots of them with enough age on them.
Good luck.
