Need help establishing the date of manufacture for a friend's Colt Python.

A good friend of mine recently pirchased a 6" Colt Python, serial #V28069. Can anyone help me help them determine the date? Thanks in advance.

Probably 1978. 1978 is the first year with "V" serial # prefix.

1979 production starts with a higher serial # (e.g., V36737).

For serial numbers after 1985, I think you'll have to contact Colt.

Call Colt customer service and ask them. Any time I acquire a used gun I call the manufacturer and get the "born-on" date. Just good info to know and keep documented.
