My grandfather asked me to help sell these for a neighbor of his.

The first gun is a S&W. The top of the barrel says "Smith and Wesson Springfield Mass. U Patented Feb. 6. 06. Sept.14 09. Dec. 29." The gun is in 32 long. The bottom of the gripframe and the rear of the cylinder are numbered 90602. The inside of the crane and the corresponding part of the frame are numbered 40210. The gun is mechanically in excellent shape with a good action and bore. It looks to me to have been refinished, but hopefully somebody will be able to look at the pics and tell for sure. The lettering is all crisp on the barrel but there are what look to me like swirls and dished out screw holes on the frame. The screw heads are all clean as is the sideplate. There is one small spot of rust on the cylinder that cleaned up, but the finish has light scratches and what looks like oxidation all over.

The second is a H&R 922 9 shot 22. The gun has a little holster wear and some scattered specks of rust that'll clean up. Otherwise the blueing is intact. The serial number is K29722. The gun is also in excellent mechanical condition with a good bore and action. I'd bet this gun would be a nice shooter.

I'd appreciate any history on these models and a rough idea of value.

I don't know S&W values or numbers but the H&R was made in 1950 and would probably sell for $100-$150 online. The serial numbers started with "A" in 1940. Then "B" in '41, etc. They skipped "I" and after "Z," they went to "AA." I'd offer $100 for it and see what he says. They're good, dependable guns. Accurate, too, especially in single action mode.

The S&W is a Regulation Police model. The Grips are made by Franzite (after market plastic). As a refinished gun, it's value is only as a shooter, or home defense gun. Value About $200-$250.

I had identified the S&W as a hand ejector model of 1903, 2nd change. The value of these guns vary from $650 for a 98% downward (Blue Book). However, I am not an expert.
I would suggest moving your thread to the firearms research section. Those guys can tell you in a heartbeat about the Smith. ;)
