I just became the owner of a New England Arms 22 Hornet rifle. This sure ain't the "purttiest" banger I have ever owned but for free..... who can complaine.

The thing is, the trigger is god awful and that is being polite. The other side of the coin is that if I bag her down like a rail gun she shoots into a dime at fifty yards. Actually three shot group clover leafed tightly.

Anyone know of anyone that has the clamps and jigs that I think must be needed to get to the trigger and work on the sear etc?

I want to "fix" the trigger before I start anything else.

Hey Art.... The oel ticker is working fine and I have added a pair of "nice new" single shots to the gun collection.

If you can remove the hammer and trigger, and have a sharp edge Arkansas stone, just stoning the full cock notch and the sear edge of the trigger A LITTLE should improve the trigger pull immensely. You might also take the hammer spring down a coil or two, but I recommend having a spare handy in case you go too far. Then put a dab of moly disulfide or similar on the hammer notch and sear and re-assemble.

Thanks for the reply.

I could do all that in a heartbeat but this is an enclosed action that I am sure requires some gunsmith gadgets to remove all the works and then get them back in.

I shopuld stick to 1885's and Stevens.

Unless NEF has come up with something new, their guns are all built on what is basically the old single shot shotgun action, a very simple gadget.

That does not mean that anyone can take it apart and get it together again, but it is not complex.

You might find that just using it will smooth things out some, and some oil down ahead of the hammer might help also.

Thanks so much for the info site. I can not download PDF at home but will do so tomorrow at work.

Thanks again and reports will be forth comming.

I did inspect a new one of these little devils in 223 at the local gun shop yeserday. Its trigger was 1000+ times better. I would still place it in the lower end of my acceptable catagory but thats because I am accustomed to shooting set triggers or very well tuned sigle triggers.

Silk purse/sows ear??????

Thanks again
