Big dilemma...I just got a new model 2019 Colt King Cobra Target with 4.25” barrel and need a chest holster rig. This gun is built on a smaller frame than the original King Cobra so those holsters are too big. It is made on the Colt D - Frame but with the grip set back some, according to Colt. The other whammy is the size of the ribbed barrel. Finding a rig is a challenge because of the small frame size combined with the ribbed heavy barrel.
In size, the frame is between the Ruger SP101 and S&W K-frame. My chest rigs are all Diamond D Guide’s Choice models and I have one for my S&W Model 69 with 4.2” barrel and one for my Ruger GP100 Match Champion with 4.2” barrel. Both of these revolvers dwarf the new King Cobra and are “L-Frame” in size and the Colt flops around in either holster. Can almost spin it around in them. The K-Frame holster is also way too loose. I called Diamond D and they don’t have a chest rig for the new Colt. I tried a reproduction WW2 US Navy pilots holster and can’t get the heavy barrel to go in. My original M3 Tanker security strap doesn’t fit around the gun correctly since this holster is really made for a 1911-A1.
I have emailed just about every chest holster manufacturer but no responses except from Diamond D.
I do not want a CCW holster, and I do not want a crossdraw or strong side holster. None on a belt. The need is for chest carry without any funky pouches or chest packs...just a chest holster rig. Does not need to be concealed, and I will be wearing a pack.
Has anyone bought one of these and found an open carry chest rig for back country travel that will fit this gun?
Thanks in advance.
