Jeepmor:

I had one of those high dollar darn things go off on me all by itself as a kid. In hunters safety class in 8th grade no less. Honest as all get at. I closed the breech with that long cocking lever and blam, it went off into a acoustic ceiling tile.

My Feinwerkbau has done that. One of the reasons it's retired. But that thing would cloverleaf three shots at forty feet with noooo trouble at all. It's got an original Beeman imported scope on it --3-9X, I believe. It worked OK the last time I fired it, and according to Beeman, it's a bit of a collector's item. I was toying with the idea of sending it to them for a recondition job: springs, seals, trigger rework, etc.

I got one better

I was in a store the other day testing soft-air guns for a child's up-coming birthday. The clerk hands me "the last one" of a particular model. The package had been taped up n such. I asked if it was a return, and he said "no, just a display item" So I cock it, point it in a safe direction, and pull the trigger.

Yep, you guessed it... a little yellow plastic BB went bouncing around behind the counter. The look the clerk had was priceless. I suggested that they "unload" their "display" guns if they don't want to go chasing plastic pellets around the store. :) Scary thing is, they are a firearms dealer.

Dang, sure coulda used that when I was growning up in Johnson County!

I grew up in JOCO too. Roeland Park. Did you go to High School there? I went to SM North.

SM South class of '83. Went to North for first period my senior year since they had canceled the NJROTC program at South that year.

Most air rifles are not designed to be dry fired and it can damage the springs. I hope they check the springs out before they put it back up for sale.

That is what I was thinking. I hope it was not a spring piston gun.

It doesn't hurt the spring.
What it does is destroy the piston seal when it slams into the front of the cylinder.

If there is a pellet in the barrel, the compressed air cushion slows the piston at the end of the stroke.

How much noise does an airgun make when dry fired? I thought the most it would do is make a little hiss and no one would know? How loud are they?

"How much noise does an airgun make when dry fired? I thought the most it would do is make a little hiss and no one would know? How loud are they?" My friend dry fired mine once, I would say it was a bit louder then a .22.

Your not soposed to dry fire airguns... No wonder mine always broke.:banghead:

Good to see some Johnson County folks here! I also went to SM North. Class of '88. Lived in Merriam and worked in Mission about Johnson Dr. & Nall for years.

the single cock lever action bb guns will also fire when the cocking lever snaps off 3/4's of the way to full cock. and when it snaps off and fires a bb into your foot it kinda ruins your day!
