Am I overreacting, or would you be pissed too?

Ok I returned something to AimSurplus several weeks ago and i got the money 10 days laters ok all is good.

Now I keep very little in my checking account because i never use it, and would rather collect interest with it in my savings account.

I transfer the exact amount to my checking account every time i buy something, so I shouldnt need to keep tight books, I just check my online account for everything

I look at my bank account today and its.....-$25 WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So I do a little digging and you (AimSurplus) apparently gave me the $140 for the return, and then another $200 for who knows what reason. Now i had also cashed a few checks so when i moved the money to my savings account i hadnt even thought about the excess money.

Now this was your(AimSurplus) money yes, you(AimSurplus) have a right to it, but that is ****ing REDICULOUS that you(AimSurplus) charge it, taking the money back out without even contacting me. The funiest thing is that you(AimSurplus) had to call me for my information to credit my account, where the hell did you(AimSurplus) pull my info to charge me for the $200???

If, or more like when I get hit with overdraft fees I am going to be PISSED.

Thanks AimSurplus!

Didnt take a screenshot of the negative, but i have $75 in there, and the last deposti was $100, which i wuick did since i dont need negative numbers!

Most of the time if you just explain your situation to the bank, they wont charge the over draft.

I still dont understand how aimsurplus even thought they had the right to access my bank account. Its the principle of the matter thats pissing me off. Just one phone call or email would have done it.

I will be calling the bank tomorrow though, i will also be explaning how i never gave them permission to access my account.

1. What are we supposed to do about it? Call the bank.

2. You join a firearms forum and as your first post make a rant not even gun related?

3. I know the last 4 digits of your credit card! :p

Yes you did. You gave them the account number.

Calm down. People make mistakes.

By making the purchase I gave them permissino to take out $158.99.

By calling giving my information, I gave them permission to deposit $140 into my account, nowhere did i give permission for them to start depositing and withdrawing whenever they wanted to.

O, gun related, sorry:

1. I've generally had good experiences with Aimsurplus.

2. You should never use your debit card for online purchases. Basic rule. Use a credit card that you pay off immediately. Keeps these situations, and worse - theft of YOUR money - from happening.

3. How much interest, REALLY, are you earning on your checking vs. savings...? Why not keep an extra few bucks in your checking to avoid exactly this situation (a small unexpected 'gotcha' charge that costs many dollars in overdrafts). The lesson is to leave a buffer or have an auto-debit feature.

Well, if they really charged your account, then that is fraudulent. It would be fraud for you to keep the money if they made a mistake, but they have to contact you and ask for it back.

Now, something to consider.

Often, transactions happen, and it shows up rather quickly in your online account. However, the money doesn't really transfer hands until later. It is possible that they issued you the money, for whatever reason, realized their mistake, and canceled it before the money actually made the transfer. It would have shown up in your account when it wasn't really there.

Talk to the bank. Likely they will reverse any overdraft fees, and they can help you out if it really was some sort of fraud. Just keep in mind that your online bank system is set up to try to help you, but it is not always accurate. They try to get things to show up as quickly as possible, but they can't always be perfect, and the system that is supposed to help you track your money can sometimes work against you, which is why it is your responsibility to track your money yourself instead of relying on the website.

So rather than calling your bank- who could fix this for you quickly-
Or calling AIM- who is much more of a well-known and trusted entity than some newbie with 3 posts on THR- to find out what's up-
You decided to get an account on THR and cry.
Yeah, that'll work.

In before the whine-lock...

OH THE INDIGNATION OF IT ALL!

I'm sure you were "shocked, shocked" to discover that an mistaken credit was corrected by a debit in your account. What happened to the "finders keepers, losers weepers" legal system used in kindergartens world-wide. You found it before they did. It's yours. Justice. Demand justice.
