New .44 AutoMag production

Its true that flooding the market with them at a cheap price would do away with some of the desirability of them as well as possibly alienate the owners of earlier models but if they want to stay in business they'll need to find a price that sells and I wouldn't consider $2k to be all that cheap.

$3k+ is too much IMHO especially when you consider the types of people that would buy a niche market handgun and what else they could buy for $3k.

I think the Coonan is a better model to base the price on than the Desert Eagle considering the new Coonan's have gone through a similar process of new manufacture.

Coonan classic version price's range from around $1500 to $1800

Considering you can get nearly identical performance of a Coonan with a Glock G40 10mm for half the cost and with a 15 round magazine, it's just not a good comparison.

Comparing a Coonan to a .44 Magnum is apples and oranges.

No one ever bought an AutoMag because it was practical. It's a wonderful, high-end gun for the if-you-have-to-ask-you-can't-afford-it shooter.
Personally, I bought mine because I can afford it, don't mind buying brass from Starline and loading my own ammo. In fact, I load all my practice and hunting and competition ammo anyway, so it's no big deal.
Is the .44 AutoMag more accurate or powerful than the .44 DE? Probably not enough to notice. But you can walk into a gun shop and buy a DE anytime. The AutoMag qualifies for the "Curio and Relic" list. It's very cool and tons of fun to shoot.
I sincerely hope these guys get their guns on the market.

I am perplexed who they think will be buying these silly things, but then again they are still making desert eagles.

Well... here's something silly. I went to my FFL to fetch my latest catch... a very nice S&W 58; there were two other gents at the table, one had a SIG or something in front of him and was about done, the other fellow was just setting there, and I assumed was waiting his turn. My FFL says to him 'it's right there if you want to look at it,' I turned around and there was a big box behind me. He walks over, flips the lid... and inside is a NIB FN M249 semi-auto! Jeepers! He glances in the box, closes the lid, and sets back down. Having military experience (not with the M249, however) I mentioned that I'll bet it's fun to shoot, but you better have a fat wallet for the ammo. He answered back that he doesn't shoot them... any of them, he just fools with them and enjoys them that way. After the two gentlemen had packed up and left, I axed my FFL about the 'any of them' part, and he said he has quite a few like that and doesn't shoot them at all. I didn't press him, it's none of my business what the man has, but I found it very interesting, and to me... somewhat silly. I would put myself in the poor house shooting the thing... but if I could afford an $8000 wannabe machine gun, I probably would have enough change in my truck ashtray to get a case of ammos for it.

The Automag is probably one of those pistols... there will be the diehard fans that want one, the guy that has dreamed of having one since he read his first Executioner book (that would be me...but I still can't afford one,) the curiosity folks, and the investment folks. It is not a practical pistol, except for a very niche few.
