Christmas came early this year when my dad gave me a new in box 45colt/45acp convertable with a 4 5/8'' barrel. when examining it I noticed that the warning label on the barrel is underneath the the barrel next to the ejector rod in small print unlike on the side in big bold letters. Is this a fluke or did Ruger finally get past the fetish of stamping billboard signs on the side of barrels?

Ruger moved "The Billboard" to the bottom of the barrel a year or so ago. I like the move and my latest Single-Six has it that way.

Good, my prayers are finally anwsered .
If it doesn't rain tomarrow i'll see how she shoots.

Didn't think it was that long ago. I thought is was earlier this yr. It all blends together now though.

I likes the billboard, gives me some reading material when I am out in the woods seeking some peace and quiet. Chief aka Maxx Load :barf:

Took it out to shoot it yesterday, got four rounds of 45 colt throught it and then the hammer plunger broke locking up the action. had to take it back home and take the grip frame off and play with awile to get the broken peaces out so I could lower the hammer so I could take the cylinder out and unload the two live rounds left in the chamber. I guess i'll be making another plesent call to Ruger today.:(
But the good news is the four rounds I did manage to get down range were all touching at about a 1 1/2 group at 25yards.

Wow, there seems to be a rash of ruger parts breakage her lately, something you would never have read about in the past.

I wonder if Ruger has changed their casting process or the materials they use, or perhaps lowered their QC standards.

Dang, that sucks! That's exactly why I run a whole bunch of rounds through any gun before I trust it for anything but range use. The good news is Ruger will fix it no matter what, let's just hope they replace the parts with better ones than what you started with.

Good luck with it, be sure and keep us informed on how they take care of you.

They also did'nt give me the gripframe screw that has the long nipple on it that holds the hammer pivot in place, instead they gave me two of the screws that go parellel to it. So the pivot keeps backing out.

This makes me believe that the person who assembled it must have been having a bad case of the Monday blues and wasn't paying attention to what he or she was doing.

Ruger no longer has a quality control department. They discontinued it several years ago. My experiences have ranged from a early .45 Colt Blackhawk with oversize cylinders that split cases. It took 18 months to get it back. to a new model .45 ACP/.45 Colt 4 5/8" convertible that has had zero problems.

IMHO almost any gun purchase these days is a crap shoot. I have gotten to where I dread buying a new firearm because out of the last dozen firearm purchases I have made over the last 10 years just 5 of them had a manufacturing or quality control issue that required return to the factory or gun smithing to fix.

:cuss:

Well I took the hammer plunger out of my single six and put it in the blackhawk. Work the action about fifty times and it broke too.:cuss:
So it looks like the problem is something else.

Send the whole gun back to Ruger. While frustrating, I would rather them figure this out on their own rather than having you end up taking some sort of inappropriate "blame"

I have the same gun (Blackhawk 45 Colt/45acp convertible) with no problems at all. I did have a problem, which was my fault, with a P-89 that I had owned about 10 years, and Ruger repaired it at cost.
Do NOT despair, Ruger will make it right
