I was going to make a purchase of a new 1911 today, and ran into a dilemma. The store had 2 brand new Colt GC Trophy 1911's (one stainless, one blued), and also had a used Colt GC National Match 1911. The price of the new SS Trophy was the same as the used NM, and the blued one was about $40 cheaper. The National Match felt pretty good, but the manager said that it had been purchased about a month ago and was returned to the store but either didn't know or wouldn't say why. Any thoughts on which of these 1911's might be better for my needs? I may shoot some bowling pins this summer, target shoot around the house, and carry with me when my wife and I go on walks. I want something reliable, good accuracy, and a good trigger. Thanks, Neil

Gold Cups are target guns. You really don't need one for pins(shooting pins is great fun. Go to the shoots anyway.) and they're sometimes are picky about what ammo they'll shoot well and cycle the action.
I'd want to know why the guy returned it(it's not brand new either. It's used. Not usually a big deal. You really have to work at damaging a modern firearm.), even though pistols are returned for a whole bunch of reasons. Mind you, I think I'd opt to save the $40.
Reliablity with a .45 is partly ammo and partly the mags. Doing a trigger job on one isn't difficult nor expensive if you don't want to do it yourself.

None of my Gold Cup National Matches nor Gold Cup Trophies are particular about ammunition.
The Gold Cup Trophy is easier to detail strip with out the sear depressor leg or sear depressor leg spring.
Either will be great but I do love the Gold Cup Trophy
