Hello Folks:

Well, my Colt obsession continues... Today I picked up a NIB Colt Single Action Army .45, nickel finish, 5.5" barrel. The revolver is absolutely gorgeous with a flawless finish. However, as mesmerized as I was by the liquid smoothness of the finish, I neglected to do as thorough of a "check-out" on the piece when I was in the store. Anyway, upon return home, I noticed a little more rotational play in the cylinder than that exhibited by my other SAA's. It's not terribly loose, and the bolt locks up very positively in all the notches, but I can hear a slight rattle when I shake it. I don't want to, but should I send it back to Colt to have a larger bolt fitted?

Thanks!

Sometimes the problem is caused by the ball (that part of the bolt that sticks up through the frame and goes into the cylinder's notch) not coming up high enough. The fix is easy, but not so if you've never done it. Given what you must have paid for the revolver I would return it to Colt to have the condition corrected. I suspect that the turn-around time would be very short, and anything else that wasn't right would be fixed at the same time.

Given the cost, they owe you a perfect gun.

Thanks Gents! I'm going to "live" with it this weekend, and shoot it some. I still don't relish the thought of it being away for weeks (months?) since I just got it, but I do want it to be right. It's not excessive by any means, but I think it oughtta be better.

Thanks again,

vanfunk

BTW, maybe I'll try another base pin in it, to see if that doesn't improve matters somewhat. Thanks for the suggestion!
