New to me anyway...

I dropped by one of the local shops and they had one of the used DAO GP-100s that have recently come on the market. (and pretty much been sold off too--hadn't seen any for awhile before this one.)

I started looking at it and noticed that there was almost no endplay. The trigger was also pretty slick.

The exterior was pretty rough--it had obviously been carried lots but there were no deep nicks or scratches.

The guy let me have it for $200 out the door. :D

I cleaned it (looks like for the first time  ), then I went to work with the ultrafine emery paper. I polished the sides of the hammer and trigger and the inside surfaces of the frame where they ride for a little help with the trigger and then did some cosmetic work as well.

It looks new--much better than I had hoped for! There wasn't a single scratch or mark that didn't polish out with minimum effort. And, judging from the burn marks inside of the chambers, it's never been fired with anything but .38 and not much of that.

The functional polishing and a proper lube job has made the trigger even better. About as nice a DA trigger as I've felt on a GP.

Cylinder gap is .007 (seems standard for the GP-100s I've seen--my other two measure .006 and .007). I tried to measure the endplay, but if there is any, it appears to be less than a thousandth. VERY tight.

I'm going to do a bit more work on the grips but that's about all it's going to need.

...and I think that will complete my GP100 "collection."

this may have been an RCMP trade-in
I've seen two batches of the DAO GP100s. One batch had 3" bbls and the other 4"bbls. I've heard that the 3 inchers were Postal Inspector guns (unconfirmed), and I believe that you're right on the 4 inchers. The 4" guns have an importer mark (CAI Georgia,VT) on them which would seem to indicate they came from outside of the U.S.

SOG has an add in the current issue of Shotgun News for 4" D/A only S/S GP100 with a holster and speed loader for $229.00.

Good!

...if you're very patient. ;)

Since the sights are fixed, I'm going to see about collecting a box or two of a lot of different factory loads that I like and then testing them all to see which ones come closest to the POA.

Add that to the fact that I own several other handguns that I have yet to fire and you should begin to get the picture...

Maybe I should post a question thread to get a hint to narrow down my ammo choices.
