Uberti model P Hammer

Replaced the hammer in an Uberti model P. Now the bolt legs fit tight against the hammer and frame..I polished the hammer with fine grit emery cloth ,and also the bolt. All contact surfaces are smooth as glass but did not solve the tight fit problem. The tight fit is not allowing the bolt to drop after the hammer enters the full cock position. Even letting the hammer down the bolt is to tight to drop and enter the cylinder. Thanks in advance. Bob

Sounds like a problem with the hammer cam being too tall, or improperly shaped.

Compare it too the old one that worked??

Also see if the bolt leif has a small bevel on it as shown here.

I would try thinning down the bolt, not the hammer, on the general principle that you alter the cheaper part. Now I can't tell you exactly which side of the bolt to work on, you will have to decide that based on what areas are binding and the need to keep the bolt centered in the frame hole. But in general, the leaf that interfaces the hammer can stand to be thinned down a bit from the inside using a small file. With the bolt out, the other side, that goes against the frame, should be straight, not bowed out.

Sometimes the spring parts need to be tuned, but that gets tricky and can result in a broken part, so I would stick to stoning/filing.
