Uberti bolt retraction problem

I have a Uberti made (stamped on barrel) American Arms SSA in .45 Colt. This is the Regulator model and is nickel plated and it also has a 45 ACP cylinder. I do not know if there is uniform parts compatibility with the the Regulator and a similar piece made by Uberti for Uberti.

The gun locks up and fires ok.

When pulling back the hammer, something isn't right with the bolt.

In position Two, the bolt should fully retract, allowing the cylinder to spin. The bolt on mine, in position Two, does not retract enough to allow this to happen. The bolt retracts about half, with the top half sticking up enough to loosely engage in the cylinder stops. I can force the cylinder to move in position Two, but the bolt drags on the cylinder face.

It also looks like the hammer does not, in position Two, go back as far as it seems like it should. I have another Cimarron/Uberti (don't know the model, doesn't say) as well as a Colt SAA (2nd Gen). On these two guns, the hammer comes back a bit further in position Two. I don't know if the hammer position is relevant, but it is something I noticed when comparing the 3 guns. The other Cimarron and the Colt have a pretty identical distance of hammer retraction when locked in position Two.

The bolt spring appears to be fine. When pushed down with the thumb, there is good resistance. I have taken it out many times and reinstalled it and nothing changes. The position of the spring is correct and the spring screw is properly tight.

I put in a new "reduced power" flat spring (Wolff part 32290) and, with that spring in, the hammer will not lock back in position Four. It also does not engage in positions One, Two or Three. One thing I did notice is the the original spring has a more pronounced curve in the trigger (longer) leg of the spring that does the Wolff. Also, when installed, the Wolff appears to be a bit longer in the trigger leg (by not being bent as much) and the trigger has a restricted range of motion from front to back, due, I think, to its "extra length". Wolff states that these will work in Ubertis, but it seems like it needs to be bent a bit or otherwise tuned to fit this gun.

I have not removed any other parts other that those needed to remove the bolt spring.

Can anyone speculate on what the problem might be?

Sounds like a broken sear (trigger) to me. That would explain the shortened hammer positions.
