My dad and brother and I just finished refurbishing a Hungarian Model 1944 Mosin-Nagant (manufactured in 1953 in Budapest) we bought at a gunshow for 55 dollars
the stock was nasty and the blueing was light, and it not being a WWII relic or anything, we decided to fix it up
We reblued with Birchwood Casey reblue liquid and stripped the stock with stripper, neutralized the pH of the stripper, then applied a coat of stain
followed by 2 coats of tung oil
the results on the stock are very satisafctory and the reblued metal looks 100% better, but not perfect though
the bore has strong rifling with some crud in it, that doesnt want to budge...but yesterday at the range we found out this was one sweet shooter!
we could pop clays at 55 yds standing up about every other shot (we're no snipers)
Here are the pics....

Sweet rifles there. I am thinking about getting a curio and relics licence myself. I wil be broke before I know it though :p

Looks great, good job.

Of all my Mosins, my Hungarian M44 is my favorite. Took the longest time to restore, but definately the best shooter.

Congrats!

Looks like you did a great job restoring her. I'm looking to pick up a couple more at the next gunshow myself.

Good SHooting

I just got my first C&R gun. It's a Russian M44 that AIM had on special for 69.95 with free shipping.

I was pleasantly surprised when I opened the box. Bluing was about 95%,
sharp rifling and just a few minor dents in the furniture. It's a good shooter too. Consistant 6" group with iron sights even considering my crummy eyes.

I'm going to order the no-drill, no-tap mount from Brownells and stick an old 4x32 scope on it so I'll actually be able to see the target at 100 yards.

I'm going to re-finish the wood to something a little less "gloppy" as the evil "Russian Red Goop"

And the $30.00 for 3 years, the C&R license is a great deal. Nothing like having Mr. UPS guy deliver my new toys right to the door!

Looks Good!

I love Mosin Carbines! :p

I've got two of those Cold War 91/59s, an M38 and one of those really nice M44s from AIM that MarkDido's talking about. They are all great fun, but nothing says mean like that big 'ol bayonette bolted to the side of the M44!

While not WWII relics, remember that the Hungarian MNs could have been used in the Hungarian revolution (of 1957, I think). It's a pretty interesting history topic. Hungary was the only com-bloc country to win their independence from the USSR, even if it was only for a few days. You never hear about "those Rambo-like Hungarians," but they sure didn't take any crap.

well they are the HUNgarians for a reason
i wish the pics were better to show the condition of the rilfe better but i guess those will have to suffice
good point Midnight:D
wohoo!
I love old guns!
another gunshow coming up this weekend.....my wallet runs in fear!
