i finally received my magazines from ammoman today and was wondering how you break in yours. i've got some of the steel SA80 magazines and several mil-spec 1911 magazines. i've heard it's a good idea to spray some CLP into them and the use them as you normally would, but i'm not really sure and didn't find anything on the search.

From my past experiences Some CLP's will attract dust and dirt possibly causing a malf. Just load 'em and unload 'em.........................the fun way !!!

Never did anything special to any new magazine. Just load it up, and empty it out............like Carlos said, the fun way.

Give 'em a couple hundred rounds then clean them.

I use a dry lube on them and work the follower up and down and check to make sure everything is smooth. Then, use them.

just wipe them off and use them unless they are covered in cosmoline?
sometimes magazines have cosmoline inside that needs to be wiped out.
As long as the follower moves freely and it's not caked up from old cosmoline, no special cleaning needed.

I always clean new mags, which often come covered with a preservative. Used military surplus mags often come with some complimentary dirt, which should be cleaned off. I normally just use a little Hoppe's No.9 on a shop towel and wipe them off, inside and out.

A very light coat of oil is not a bad idea, if they are steel mags and they won't be used in a dry dusty climate.
